According to Vietnamese belief, the Kitchen God will ride a carp to Heaven to report to the Jade Emperor about the family situation in the past year. Therefore, every December 23, people go to ponds, lakes, and rivers to release carp. In the photo: People in Vinh City go to Lam River to release carp at noon on January 22 (December 23). Photo: QA

Signs reminding and advising people to release fish responsibly to protect the environment have also been promoted by localities at various locations, but have not been fully effective. Photo: QA

Many opinions say that to prevent this situation from recurring in the following years, there needs to be sanctions for this behavior, not just warnings and reminders. In the photo: Some people consciously throw trash in the bin after releasing fish into the Lam River. Photo: QA
