Detained man who spent 200 million VND to build a road for people
While building a road with his own funds, the man was chased, restrained, and taken to the commune headquarters for several hours of detention.
On the morning of June 24, Mr. Nguyen Van Ut - Chief of Office of the People's Committee of Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Tan Thanh Dong Commune authorities had reported on the case of chasing, controlling, and temporarily detaining Mr. Bui Hoang Anh (39 years old, residing in Trung An Commune, Cu Chi District) on May 4, 2018 while he was organizing road construction to help people. However, Mr. Ut could not provide the specific content of the report.
Also on the morning of June 24, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoai Phu - Chairman of Cu Chi district said: "I have not yet received information about the incident".

According to Mr. Hoang Anh, once when he passed through Hamlet 6, Tan Thanh Dong Commune, he saw that the 100m long, 3m wide road leading to some households' houses was seriously degraded, so he spent 200 million VND to build a road to help the people.
Before doing it, some households living here also informed the local authorities. On May 4, 2018, the work was carried out. But while the asphalt road was being paved, some officials of Tan Thanh Dong commune came to ask them to stop working and confiscated the machinery.
When Mr. Hoang Anh arrived, he was chased, restrained, handcuffed and taken to the headquarters for several hours of detention by Tan Thanh Dong commune officials.
Mr. Hoang Anh added that all the road construction machinery that day was confiscated by the Tan Thanh Dong commune authorities without a clear reason and without a record being made.
