Confessions of a 78-year-old doctor in Nghe An who wrote an application to join the front line against Covid-19

This morning, at Dr. Trang's house in block 3A, Thanh Chuong town, many people came to congratulate and share their feelings when they learned that Dr. Trang wrote a petition to the authorities of Thanh Chuong district to join the army to fight the Covid-19 epidemic.

Doctor Trang said: Currently, the Covid-19 epidemic situation is complicated, especially in the epicenter of Bac Giang. Through the media channels, I am very moved by the images of doctors who are fighting day and night at the epicenter.

As a retired doctor, I really want to participate in epidemic prevention work, bring my knowledge, join hands with the community to fight the epidemic, and serve the medical examination and treatment for people in the epidemic area."

With that in mind, on May 30, Dr. Trang decided to write a petition to the District Party Committee, the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong District, and the Thanh Chuong District Medical Center to volunteer to join the army to fight the Covid-19 epidemic.

In the application, Dr. Trang shared: “I want to join the white coat army (my colleagues) with great enthusiasm, hoping that when I am old, I can do more useful work for society. Live with responsibility and love, never be indifferent to any misfortune.”

At the end of the application, Dr. Trang promised: “If approved, I would be extremely grateful and consider it a great honor first of all for myself and my family. If anything happens, as I said: When we are alive, we are doctors/ No matter what, we must keep our hearts/ When we die, we want to turn into an ancient tree/ To add shade to life.”

Accompanying this application is the fable “Enteringthe center of the pandemic"reflecting, praising, and respecting the medical staff in the epidemic area, while also expressing the determination of individuals who want to contribute to society:"Still very healthy/Blood still boiling/If I may/With an oath of honor/For humanity to live/I am ready to die".

The story of Dr. Trang volunteering to go to the epicenter of the Covid-19 epidemic in Bac Giang to participate in the fight against Covid-19 was widely shared after being posted on social media. Most comments were in awe of the doctor's meaningful work and wished her good health so that she could participate in treating people every day.

It is known that Dr. Trang graduated from Hanoi Medical University and has worked for many years as Head of Pediatrics, General Pediatrics, and Oriental Medicine at Thanh Chuong District General Hospital.

After retiring (in 2005), he regularly participated in free medical examination and treatment activities for local people, and became a prestigious person who was trusted by many people. Currently, although he is 78 years old, his health is very good and his mind is clear.

In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. Trang is also a talented writer. Up to now, he has published 32 poetry collections, tens of thousands of poems written in many different styles, reflecting many aspects of life.

In which, the consistent and outstanding content is the love for homeland, country, passion for dedication, and passionate love of life: "The land of Thanh Chuong homeland is passionate/ Is flourishing day by day/ The source of excitement creates attraction/ Sending the soul into music, painting, and poetry". Doctor Trang's poetry is admired by poets and poetry-loving friends in and outside the district.

Recently, he has sold more than 4,000 books to contribute to the charity fund, aiming at disadvantaged families and poor students in the locality.

Living to cure people and writing poetry to convey the beauty of life are probably the two main activities of Dr. Trang after retirement.

Talking about Dr. Trang's anti-epidemic spirit, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Dieu - a cultural officer of Thanh Chuong town said: "I really admire and am touched by Dr. Nguyen Van Trang's anti-epidemic spirit of Covid-19.

As someone who has been in contact with Ms. Trang for a long time, I understand that this is her burning desire and wish to soon realize it, contributing to the whole country's fight against the epidemic. Her actions have a widespread impact, demonstrating the social responsibility of each citizen in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic.
