Just about 30 meters out of the house, when reaching Le Loi street, he was suddenly knocked down by two young men on a red and black Yamaha Sirius motorbike (license plate unknown).
Immediately after that, these two young men used pepper spray and electric batons to continuously attack Ms. Yen and her daughter, robbing a handbag containing more than 400 million VND in cash, a metal box containing 20 gold bars; many gold jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, rings. Total value nearly 3 billion VND.
The incident happened suddenly within a few minutes and on a deserted road, Ms. Yen and her children did not have time to react.
After being attacked and robbed of money and gold, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen fell into a state of panic. Mr. Nguyen Gia Truyen had many minor burns on his body from being shocked by an electric baton.
According to the victim's family, recently there have been some strangers hanging around the area where the family lives, so they suspect they were being followed beforehand.
Meanwhile, on the same day, people discovered an abandoned car burned in the casuarina forest of Hoa Hiep Bac commune, Dong Hoa district, about 7km from the robbery scene. Authorities suspect that this was the vehicle used by the two robbers to commit the crime and then dispose of it, so they are conducting a thorough investigation.
