Hoang Mai town launched a campaign to respond to Drug Prevention Month

On the morning of June 7, Hoang Mai town organized a launching ceremony to respond to the June Drug Prevention Action Month and the International Day against Drug Abuse (June 26) in 2023.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Le Truong Giang - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Hoang Mai Town Party Committee; Dam Huu Hong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Town Party Committee; Nguyen Huu An - Deputy Secretary of the Town Party Committee, Chairman of the Town People's Committee; comrades in the Standing Committee of the Town Party Committee, the Town Party Committee; leaders of the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, wards and communes in the town.

Hoang Mai town is a young urban area, bordering Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province, with many important traffic routes passing through. The rapid urbanization, along with the development of industrial parks attracting many workers, has led to negative impacts on the security and order situation in the area, especially drug abuse.

According to the town's report, in the first 6 months of 2023, 12 cases of illegal storage, trading, and organization of drug use were discovered in the town, seizing more than 300 grams of various drugs.

In recent times, Party committees and authorities at all levels have made great efforts in organizing and implementing drastic solutions to combat crimes and drug abuse, which have been actively responded to by the masses, agencies, organizations, businesses, schools, and armed forces, participating in the fight and prevention, contributing to ensuring national security, maintaining social order and safety, and creating momentum for socio-economic development in the town.

In particular, Hoang Mai town is currently focusing on implementing the policy of the Ministry of Public Security, the Provincial Party Committee, and the Provincial People's Committee on expanding and building "Drug-free communes and wards", aiming to build "Drug-free towns"; Party committees, authorities at all levels, branches, agencies, and units are focusing on leading, directing, and implementing drastic and synchronous solutions, thus achieving many important results. 2/10 localities have been recognized as drug-free and 8/10 communes and wards are striving to be recognized.

Besides the achieved results, there are still difficulties and limitations such as: The town does not have a local drug rehabilitation center, so there is no facility to focus on drug rehabilitation for addicts; drug rehabilitation measures have not been implemented synchronously, and many jobs have not been created for addicts after reintegrating into the community, etc. Crime and drug abuse are still potentially complicated, especially the "smuggling" of drugs from outside into the area; drug users among teenagers, in karaoke service businesses, and accommodation facilities still occur.

Therefore, the number of drug addicts in the town still remains, and the situation of drug crime is still potentially complicated.

Meanwhile, the propaganda work on drug prevention and control has been deployed in localities but not in depth, not widely, not regularly and continuously, not reaching the people, so the effectiveness of prevention work is not high. The attention, care and education of families, schools, local authorities of communes and wards have not taken drastic action,... The number of drug addicts tends to be younger, with diverse forms of use, especially of "crystal" drugs.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, comrade Le Truong Giang - Secretary of Hoang Mai City Party Committee emphasized: The fight against drugs is an extremely important task, having a strong impact on the socio-economic development of the locality; this is the task of the entire Party and people, a regular and long-term task.

The Secretary of the Town Party Committee requested that each citizen express their condemnation and criticism of this dangerous social evil and take specific and practical actions to contribute to the fight against drugs and ensure social order and safety in the town.

The functional forces of the town and the entire population effectively carried out the peak period of drug prevention and control from today (June 7-30) and the key tasks of drug prevention and control in 2023 according to the Plan of the Town People's Committee. Strengthen the force to organize attacks and suppress drug crimes in the whole town, prevent and stop drugs from being "smuggled" into the town.

Continue to review and closely monitor the situation of drug addicts and illegal drug users in the area to handle each specific case, aiming to reduce the number of addicts, speed up the process of filing files to send addicts to compulsory drug rehabilitation facilities, and move towards having no addicts in the area.

After the launching ceremony, the town requested the People's Committees of wards and communes to continue organizing parades, propaganda and promoting drug prevention and control activities in their units and localities based on the actual situation of the area; especially promoting the role of civilized and safe self-management groups.

Agencies, departments, branches and organizations coordinate to promote propaganda activities in response to the Month of Drug Prevention and Control and the International Day for National Drug Prevention and Control.
