Agree on proposal to build a rigid bridge to replace the Giang River suspension bridge in Thanh Chuong

Attending the meeting were representatives of the Vietnam Road Administration, Road Administration Department 2 and members of the National Traffic Safety Committee; leaders of the Department of Transport; members of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee; leaders of Thanh Chuong district and representatives of relevant departments and branches.
At the meeting, comrade Hoang Phu Hien - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Transport, Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee reported on the accident that occurred on the evening of October 4 at the Giang River suspension bridge (Thanh Chuong) resulting in 5 deaths.

After the incident, upon receiving the news, the leadersThanh Chuong districtarrived at the scene in time, coordinated with the District Disaster Prevention and Control Command, specialized departments of the Provincial Police and authorities of Thanh Lien, Phong Thinh and Thanh Nho communes to organize rescue.

The district also set up checkpoints at two bridges to ensure safety, coordinated with the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department and the people to search and rescue victims who fell into the river, and salvage cars. Coordinated with the Investigation Police Department, the Criminal Techniques Department of the Provincial Police, and the Provincial People's Procuracy to conduct a crime scene investigation and establish an autopsy council to clarify the incident.
On the morning of October 5, the working delegation ofNational Traffic Safety Committee, leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, leaders of Thanh Chuong district and Thanh Lien and Thanh Nho communes visited, expressed condolences, supported the families of the victims, and assisted relatives of the victims' families in preparing funerals according to local customs.

Currently, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency is presiding over and investigating the incident. The Road Management Department 2 is quickly repairing the collapsed bridge railing, ensuring safe travel for people participating in traffic.

During the meeting, many opinions agreed that the Giang River suspension bridge has been in use for more than 30 years (since 1987), and has undergone many repairs and maintenance but has seriously degraded. Currently, the demand for travel and freight transport is increasing, so authorities need to consider building a rigid bridge to replace it, ensuring safety for people and vehicles, serving local socio-economic development.

In his concluding remarks at the meeting, Comrade Khuat Viet Hung highly appreciated the sense of responsibility of all levels and sectors of Nghe An province in general and Thanh Chuong district in particular in searching, rescuing and overcoming the incident. At the same time, he affirmed the role of local people in supporting the authorities to resolve the incident.
