Deputy Minister of Transport works with Nghe An province on upgrading and expanding Vinh International Airport
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of April 23, the Provincial People's Committee had a meeting with a working delegation from the Ministry of Transport to survey and evaluate the expansion of Vinh International Airport.

Vinh Airportis a 4E-class international airport according to ICAO regulations, with an expected passenger capacity of 8 million passengers/year by 2030. The airport currently has a 2,400m long runway, invested in construction since 2001, 45m wide. Vinh Airport's passenger terminal has a total floor area of 11,706 m2, including 6 aircraft exits, serving 1,000 passengers during peak hours, with a designed capacity of 2 million passengers/year, with 7 flight routes, with about 42 flights (both departure and arrival)/day.
The operating output in 2020 is 2.050 million passengers. Operating 8 international flights VII-TPE-VII with an output of 634 international passengers. There are 13,702 departure/arrival flights in the year.

In order to meet the development needs, the port has recently been implementing expansion and upgrading projects. To date, the project to install a passenger bridge to increase convenience and enhance the actual operating capacity of the existing terminal has been completed (total investment of 116 billion VND).
Currently in progressT2 Passenger Terminal Construction Project, designed capacity of 5 million passengers/year; Project to build an aircraft parking lot in front of Terminal T2: Total investment of about 1,001 billion VND and Project to expand and renovate the aircraft parking lot with a total investment of 236 billion VND.

At the meeting, a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam presented a report on the results of the study on extending the runway at Vinh Airport. Accordingly, three options were proposed: extending the runway to 3,000m-45m; 3,500m and 4,100m.
After listening to analysis from the Northern Airports Authority in Vinh, Vietnam Airports Corporation, etc., Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan said that, in the immediate future,Ministry of Transportwill work with related units to focus on completing Terminal T2, apron and runway to ensure serving the increasing needs of passengers.

Regarding the plan to extend the old runway to ensure the exploitation of code E aircraft, the Ministry of Transport will study it because it is related to the conditions of the province. The opening of a new runway will be considered after 2025. It is recommended that the Vietnam Airports Corporation study capital to meet the expansion investment requirements.
Concluding the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh said that Vinh International Airport plays a very important role in the development of Nghe An, Ha Tinh and the region, especially in serving tourism and attracting investment. Currently, Vinh Airport Terminal has begun to be fully loaded, overloaded during peak hours, unable to meet international flights. Therefore, the need for investment in upgrading and expansion is extremely necessary.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee agreed with the proposed plans of the Ministry of Transport, requesting the ministry to direct units to implement the items; the province will continue to work with the Government to resolve the site clearance issue, and soon hand over to the construction unit.

To meet development needs, the agencies are considering investing in extending the taxiway to 3,000m to ensure the exploitation of code E aircraft; Building a taxiway parallel to the existing take-off and landing runway.
In order to soon deploy projects and carry out compensation, support and resettlement work to ensure progress and plan requirements, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee requested Vietnam Airports Corporation to work with relevant agencies to speed up the procedures for approving detailed planning 1/500, approving the feasibility study report of Terminal T2 project, Parking lot in front of Terminal T2...
