Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc: Focus on innovating the management mechanism from the first quarter of 2019

Chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, on the morning of January 31, the last day of the first month of 2019, the Government held a regular meeting to assess the socio-economic situation in January and inspect preparations for the Lunar New Year for the people.
In his opening speech, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his joy at the joyful, bustling atmosphere of people across the country preparing to welcome the Lunar New Year 2019.
The Prime Minister also happily recalled the historic achievement of the Vietnamese men's football team entering the top 8 strongest teams in Asia at the recent Asian Cup 2019. The Prime Minister also affirmed the outstanding results of the event of the Vietnamese Government High-Level Delegation attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland in January, with a strong message about Vietnam - an innovative country, an economy deeply connected with the global economy.
In addition to assessing the socio-economic situation in January, the Prime Minister also requested Government members to inspect the preparation for Tet for the people, especially in remote, disadvantaged areas, and areas suffering a lot of damage from natural disasters.
Assessing the country's socio-economic situation in January, the Prime Minister said that the good trend of 2018 continued. CPI increased by 0.1%, exchange rates and interest rates were stable.
Last month, the State Bank purchased over 4 billion USD in foreign exchange reserves. Policy beneficiaries, especially those in disadvantaged areas, were taken care of at home regarding related policies.
In particular, the industrial production index still increased by nearly 8%. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increased sharply; the stock of goods was well ensured, there was no shortage or shortage of goods. FDI attraction continued to develop well. Investment capital from the State budget increased by 8.5%, reaching 5.56% of the 2019 plan.
The Prime Minister also said that in January, the country's exports reached over 2 billion USD but imports were 20.8 billion USD due to the high demand for goods at the end of the year, so there was a trade deficit in January. The country had over 10,000 newly established enterprises with capital increasing by 53.8%, which shows the scale of Vietnamese enterprises.
Notably, during this time, over 8,000 businesses resumed operations. Cultural, social and environmental fields were ensured. Political security and social order and safety were maintained. Gangster crimes and illegal credit were vigorously suppressed.
With the spirit of “don’t leave today’s work for tomorrow”, the Prime Minister asked members of the Government to focus on innovation in administration and management; to innovate the administration mechanism right after Tet, right from the first quarter, especially in important fields and projects that the country has high demand for, such as large-scale industrial development or issues that are causing pain to the people and need to be addressed and overcome, such as traffic accidents.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested relevant ministries and sectors to closely monitor market prices to take appropriate management and operation measures. Efforts should be made to ensure a safe and cozy Tet for the people, the Prime Minister requested.
According to the program, also in this meeting, the Government will discuss the plan to assign a focal agency to manage solid waste; the law and ordinance development program in 2020, adjust the law and ordinance development program in 2019 and discuss a number of draft laws...
