Reply to TV channelRossiya-1On November 18, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that when traveling on the presidential plane, Mr. Putin often has the habit of taking advantage of the time to study documents and quickly read all the news.
“Putin will start reading the documents because all draft decrees and presidential instructions prepared by the Kremlin press service usually have to be approved by Putin before they can be widely issued. Therefore, the president will spend time while traveling by plane reading, editing and approving the documents. Occasionally, Putin will watch TV or read newspapers to supplement domestic and international news,” Peskov said.
The official said that news and television programs for Mr. Putin to watch will be edited and synthesized by a team of assistants to suit the President.
Asked if Mr Putin has time to read novels, Mr Peskov said: “As far as I know, yes. However, Mr Putin usually does not have much time for that.”
According to Russian media, in his free time, Mr. Putin often enjoys participating in sports and physical activities such as martial arts, fishing, horseback riding, and hockey. However, when appearing on a television program last year, he revealed that he enjoys reading books when he has time.
Despite his busy schedule, Putin has made no secret of his love for history books. He says he enjoys poring over and pondering over the reasons behind the decisions made by previous leaders. He then considers the events, pieces together the information, and makes his own judgments.
The plane that President Putin uses for his official business trips is an upgraded version of the Il-96 passenger plane and has been used as a means of transportation for Russian leaders since 1996. A former head of the presidential security agency said that when he boards this plane, Mr. Putin can both work and live comfortably, no less than in the Kremlin.
