Previously, on the morning of March 22, 2020, Que Phong District Police received information from the people about a number of Lao people organizing the transportation of drugs from across the border into the mountainous area of Nam Giai Commune, Que Phong District. The Commander of Que Phong District Police assigned a working group of 8 comrades from the Criminal - Economic - Drug Crime Investigation Team to verify the source of information and develop an arrest plan.
When approaching, comrade Nghia discovered a subject carrying a plastic bag containing drugs, so he cleverly distracted the subject, causing him to be careless, and quickly approached and knocked him down. But suddenly, from the bushes behind, another subject rushed out, stabbed and slashed the drug detective repeatedly, then rescued his accomplice and ran away. After that, although seriously injured, Senior Lieutenant Nghia continued to chase and signaled his teammates to come. But when his teammates arrived, the two drug dealers had already fled into the deep forest, leaving behind a knife still stained with blood along the road. His teammates then took Nghia to the district medical center for emergency treatment, but he did not survive due to severe injuries and heavy blood loss.
Previously, many working delegations from units under the Ministry of Public Security, police units and localities under Nghe An Police also visited and supported the relatives of Captain Sam Quoc Nghia.
