Growing melons in 500 m2 of greenhouse, profit 50 million VND/crop
(Baonghean.vn) - Grown in a greenhouse system and using a drip irrigation system, the melon garden of Mr. Vo Manh Hau's family in Hamlet 3, Nghia An Commune (Nghia Dan - Nghe An) has high productivity and sells for a good price.
According to Mr. Hau, the initial investment cost for greenhouses, seeds, irrigation systems, etc. is about 250 million VND/500 m2, but in return, the "lifespan" of the greenhouse can be used from 8 to 10 years. Applying the greenhouse to grow melons not only helps to protect against rain and sun, but also prevents insects from entering, helping to reduce production costs (due to not using pesticides to prevent harmful insects).

After only 75 days of planting 1,200 trees, Mr. Hau harvested over 1.7 tons of melons. This is a Vietnamese TL3 melon variety grown using Israeli technology, weighing 1.8 - 2kg/fruit, with some weighing 2.3kg, the melons are uniform, have beautiful color, are crunchy and sweet, and can be preserved for over 1 month; the current selling price is 50,000 VND/kg.

According to Mr. Hau's calculations, this is the first crop, after deducting expenses, he earned more than 50 million VND in profit. With the income from the first crop, Mr. Hau believes that after only 2 years, he will be able to recover his capital and make a profit. Therefore, in the near future, he will build another greenhouse, increasing the total area to 1000m2.2to increase productivity, income and meet market demand.
It is worth mentioning that investing in a greenhouse system, in addition to growing melons twice a year, in the cold season, can switch to growing tomatoes and lilies to sell during Tet.
