(Baonghean.vn) - As a parishioner of Con Ca parish, Nghia Loc commune (Nghia Dan), Mr. Ngo Van Huan is always a bold person, a pioneer in changing the structure of crops and livestock in the locality. Currently, Mr. Huan is implementing a new model of "planting pineapples with oranges" which promises high income.

The family of parishioner Ngo Van Huan has 1.5 hectares of hilly land. Previously, the family grew cassava and then switched to growing acacia but the results were not high. Realizing that the hilly land was suitable for growing citrus trees, he switched to growing 600 orange trees.

However, oranges are a crop that requires high care techniques, taking 4-5 years or more to harvest, while the vacant land between orange trees is large, so his family takes advantage of it to intercrop pineapples.

On 1.5 hectares of hilly land, Mr. Huan's family grows 40,000 pineapple shoots. Pineapple is a very easy plant to grow, does not require sophisticated or complicated care techniques; only need to care after 12 - 18 months to harvest.

With the short-term method of raising long-term income, while waiting for the orange harvest, his family is expected to harvest about 3-5 pineapple crops. To facilitate the model's good development, Mr. Huan invested in an irrigation system using mist spray technology to keep the soil moist, creating favorable conditions for the plants to grow well.

Although it is not yet harvest time, this is a new model in Nghia Loc commune, with elaborate investment and application of scientific and technological advances, promising high income per unit area.

Mr. Ngo Sy Cuong - Chairman of Nghia Loc Commune People's Committee said: Mr. Ngo Van Huan boldly changed the crop structure after planting other crops that were not effective. Investing in high-tech mist irrigation in production, ensuring good crop growth. We hope that in the near future this model will be replicated in some citrus growing areas in the area./.
