Non-public schools 'open their doors' to welcome students into grade 10
Thousands of candidates will fail the public school entrance exam, which was predicted before the 2024 10th grade entrance exam in Nghe An. Therefore, at this time, many parents and students have begun to find other ways for their children to increase their chances of studying.
Non-public schools open to welcome candidates
After knowing the 10th grade entrance exam scores, early this July, Luu GN - a 9th grade student at Nguyen Bieu Secondary School (Hung Nguyen), went to submit his application to Dinh Bat Tuy High School - a non-public school in Hung Nguyen district. Previously, this candidate registered to take the exam at Le Hong Phong High School (Hung Nguyen). However, with only 12 points in 3 subjects, Luu GN thought that his chance of passing the public school entrance exam was difficult. Therefore, although there was no official benchmark score, he registered to attend a non-public school to secure a spot.

Dinh Bat Tuy High School is the only non-public school in Hung Nguyen district. It is currently the address chosen by students of Vinh city (Hung Chinh commune area), students of Hung Nguyen district and students of Nam Dan district with the advantage of tuition fees (about 1/2 lower than non-public schools in Vinh city) and convenient transportation.

Previously, right from the time of registering for grade 10, this non-public school had 58 applications for admission according to the first choice and this number increased to 64 students after the change in admission selection. Since the grade 10 admission scores were released, there have been more than 200 more applications to register for the school.
In the past few days, after the 10th grade entrance exam results were released, the school has also proactively compiled a list of students. For students at risk of failing the public school entrance exam, the school has collected phone numbers to contact parents and students for counseling and enrollment.
The number of applications for admission to the school increased rapidly after students learned their exam scores, because this year, the competition rate for admission to public schools in the area increased. Therefore, students who took the exam for Pham Hong Thai High School (Hung Nguyen) with less than 17 points, Kim Lien High School (Nam Dan) with less than 16 points, and Nam Dan 2 High School with less than 14 points have transferred their applications to Dinh Bat Tuy High School. Currently, the school has collected the original applications for these cases, but we have not yet determined the exact number of applications. Because, learning from the experience of 2023, some students after public schools lowered their admission scores, may take back their applications to enroll in public schools.

At Sao Nam High School (Nam Dan), before registering for the 10th grade entrance exam, the school also received 231 applications for the first choice. With 6 classes and 270 quotas for this school year, the number of applications to supplement will not be many. Teacher Nguyen Van Thuong - Principal of Sao Nam High School said: "Currently, public schools in the area have not announced the standard scores, so many candidates may be "hesitant" to submit their applications. We have determined that the school's enrollment may last until mid-August to increase the students' chances of being admitted."
Difficult to choose
After completing the 10th grade entrance exam, Ms. Vo Thi H.'s daughter (Vinh city) only scored less than 22 points. Registering her first choice at Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Ms. Vo Thi H. was both worried and happy when faced with two streams of public opinion because many opinions said that the school's admission rate this year was over 90%. While waiting for the review results from the Department of Education and Training, her family received an admission notice from the Primary, Secondary, and High School of Pedagogical Practice - Vinh University and required early enrollment in early July.
"My family has been wondering for the past few days because we don't know which option to choose. On the one hand, we want to wait for the re-examination scores and wait for Huynh Thuc Khang High School to soon announce the admission scores. On the other hand, if my child does not enroll in Vinh University's Primary, Secondary and Pedagogical Practice High School, he will lose the chance to be admitted. The education sector should soon announce the admission scores so that parents will not be worried."

It was not until July 12 that public schools in Vinh City began to announce the first round of admission scores. According to the schedule, the admission process may last until August 2 after the schools complete the third round of admission. For non-public schools, the first round of admission will be conducted from August 6 and last until August 16. Compared to other localities in the country, the announcement of admission scores in Nghe An is longer and more complicated, because it depends a lot on the admission of specialized schools. This also makes many parents confused and worried, especially those with a 50/50 threshold between passing and failing.
For the convenience of candidates, up to this point, non-public schools in the province have announced enrollment.

This year, our school has 450 quotas. Currently, the number of applications for the first choice and applications submitted directly to the school after receiving the 10th grade exam scores is about 250 applications. Therefore, the opportunity to enter the school is still very large. In addition to considering the 10th grade exam scores, the school also considers admission based on the student's 4-year academic results (report cards) to increase the students' chances of being admitted.

Previously, according to the Department of Education and Training, in addition to nearly 36,000 quotas for public schools, this year, the department also added 5,565 quotas for non-public schools and 3,518 quotas for continuing education centers in the province. Therefore, parents can consider choosing the right school for their children according to their abilities, conditions and circumstances.
In order to increase the chances of admission, the Department also allows students who do not take the 10th grade entrance exam to submit their transcripts to non-public schools for admission consideration. In addition, vocational schools are also having many policies to attract students to study with a program that combines vocational training and connection with Continuing Education centers so that students can study culture and take the 12th grade graduation exam after completing the program./.
