Established in 1965, Dien Thap Secondary School has gone through many ups and downs: During the fierce war, the US imperialists bombed the North, Dien Thap was a frequent target of bombardment. Overcoming bombs and bullets, the school's Board of Directors still maintained teaching and learning activities by dividing classes, rooms, and setting up simple thatched huts in semi-submerged and semi-surfaced areas in neighboring communes; most concentrated in Thai Hau village, organizing night classes.

At that time, the school's facilities were also extremely difficult, the classrooms were built with thatched roofs and earthen walls, many nights of heavy rain, oil lamps could not withstand the rain, in the dark night teachers and students hugged their books despite the pouring rain on their heads. The story of a meal of 1 portion of rice and 5 portions of cassava, teachers and students giving each other thin blankets in winter... was common. Despite the difficulties, the emulation movement of teaching and learning was still maintained. Straw hats, camouflage leaf brims, bamboo leaf pens and Cuu Long ink bottles still accompanied the students to school.

The emulation movement of “Bac Ly drum” at that time still resonated, the emulation movement of “good teaching, good learning” contributed to beautifying the glorious tradition of Dien Thap school at that time. Also from this school, turning hatred into action, following the beloved call of the Fatherland “all for the front line”, many students put down their pens and joined the army, many left their blood and bones for the beloved South. That great sacrifice always reminded generations of teachers and students of Dien Thap to always strive to teach and learn, bringing many good results to their homeland Dien Thap in particular, Dien Chau district in general.

In 1973, Dien Thap Secondary School was renovated and upgraded by the local government. A vibrant learning atmosphere was rekindled as before. As a result, for many consecutive years the school achieved the title of Advanced Collective and Excellent Advanced. In the 1992-1993 school year, due to a decrease in the number of students and classes, Dien Thap Secondary School merged with Dien Lien Secondary School to form Lien - Thap Secondary School. In the 1994-1995 school year, the school separated from Lien - Thap Secondary School and was established as Dien Thap Secondary School.

Accordingly, to improve the quality of education, schools focus on rectifying discipline and promoting improvements in teaching methods, innovating assessment and evaluation, and paying attention to regular training to improve teaching capacity, style, and professional ethics for staff and teachers.

Determining the construction of national standard schools is one of the important tasks aimed at standardization, modernization, and socialization to create conditions to ensure the improvement of education quality; gradually affirming the school's brand in the educational process. At the same time, this is a goal in the planning of the school network, an important part in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction of the locality. From that awareness, the Party Cell and the School Board always pay attention to the goal of building a standard school, continuing to affirm its achievements in the educational career, meeting the trust of the Party Committee and local people.

From a unit in the early stages with annual educational quality classified as "district lowlands", low general quality, and a high percentage of weak students. With a high spirit of solidarity, with the determination to constantly innovate to build up to standards. In the past 5 school years, the school has continuously had many excellent students at the district and provincial levels. In the 2017-2018 school year alone, there were 2 excellent students at the provincial level, nearly 30 excellent students at the district level; over 70 excellent students in all areas, hundreds of advanced students; 24 teachers all met the standards, including 4 excellent teachers at the provincial level, 21 excellent teachers at the district level. The quality of comprehensive education is always stable and improved. Accounting, clerical, library, equipment, medical and security staff ensure the operational requirements of the school.

From a unit with difficulties in facilities, thanks to the attention of all levels and sectors, the school has now become spacious and up to standard: separate campus, surrounding fence with an area of ​​6800 m2, an average of 15 m2/student, the structure of the school's buildings is arranged reasonably, scientifically, clean and airy, including 12 rooms. The subject classroom area includes: Physics - Technology room, Biology - Chemistry room with full facilities and standard laboratory equipment, 1 computer room with 30 computers connected to the Internet, a library recognized as meeting national standards. Traditional room, music room, medical room and working rooms for organizations and unions are fully equipped according to regulations. Playground, sports training ground, parking lot for staff, teachers and students; clean water system, sanitation facilities ensure according to regulations. From 2016 to present, nearly 11 billion VND has been invested in building facilities.
