(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of September 14, the Department of Education and Training of Tuong Duong district reported to the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province about the damage caused by the flash flood that occurred at Yen Tinh Secondary School early this morning.

Initial statistics show that the flood submerged 350 sets of textbooks for students and schools (including 85 sets for grade 6, 83 sets for grade 7, 90 sets for grade 8, 92 sets for grade 9) along with a number of reference books for each class; 20 sets of desktop computers, 6 laptops, 6 printers; 120 sets of desks and chairs, 19 sets of dining tables and chairs for students, 8 sets of teacher desks and chairs, 1 projector, 7 televisions, 80 sets of blankets and mosquito nets along with supplies and materials for boarding students and all teaching equipment into the mud.

In particular, 2 tons of rice reserved for boarding students were also submerged in flood water and could not be used.

Flash floods also damaged some belongings of boarding teachers at Yen Tinh 1 Primary School and damaged the fence at Cha Lum school of Yen Tinh 2 Primary School.

Discussing the post-flood handling work, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan, Deputy Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training, said: "Currently, the Department of Education and Training has directed the department to report to the District People's Committee, focusing all local resources to overcome the consequences, and soon bring the school back to normal operation.

At the same time, continue to monitor weather developments to promptly notify schools to proactively let students stay home when there is a risk of flash floods or landslides, ensuring absolute safety for students; at the same time, have plans to make up for lost time and clean the environment to avoid disease outbreaks.

Throughout today (September 14), the district youth union, police, district military command and other school units in the district also mobilized forces to support teachers and students of Yen Tinh Secondary School in cleaning and repairing damaged items.

However, according to Ms. Vi Thi Bich Thuy, Head of the District Education Department: "Currently, because the facilities are completely damaged, it is very difficult for the school and students, the most worrying of which is the desks, chairs and books of teachers and students. Temporarily, the school has allowed students at all three levels of preschool, primary and secondary school to take a break for the rest of this week and is proposing to the district to soon have measures to support the school."

Earlier, at dawn yesterday (September 13), floods suddenly poured into Yen Tinh commune, Tuong Duong district. At the time of the flash flood, there were 12 staff, teachers and 104 students at the school. Immediately after that, teachers promptly guided the students (boarding) of the school to run to higher ground, so fortunately there were no human casualties.
