New regulations allow prisoners to eat meals with their families in prison, meet their spouses in private rooms, or send money home.

Circular 07/2018 issued by the Ministry of Public Security regulating prisoners' visits to relatives, sending and receiving letters, money, objects, etc. with relatives, effective from March 29, allows prisoners with good behavior to eat meals separately with three family members in the canteen where they serve their sentence. Meal time is one hour.

Prisoners under 18 years of age are allowed to meet their relatives three times a month, for no more than three hours each time. Married people are allowed to meet their spouses in private rooms for no more than 24 hours.

Female prisoners must use contraception if they want to meet their husbands in private rooms.

According to the Circular, people who are allowed to visit prisoners include: paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents; biological parents; fathers and mothers-in-law (or husband); legally adoptive parents; wife or husband; biological children, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, legally adopted children; biological brothers and sisters, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law; brothers and sisters-in-law (or husband); aunts, uncles, paternal uncles, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to these people, anyone who wants to meet a prisoner must have written consent from the local authorities or workplace.

Inmates are allowed to see up to three people at a time. Inmates under 18 are allowed to see their family members three times a month for no more than three hours at a time.
