During his working trip to the Federal Republic of Germany from September 22-24, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung spent a lot of time meeting with government officials and leaders of several large enterprises, thereby affirming that Vietnam wants German enterprises, especially multinational corporations with large scale and reputation in the market, to cooperate and invest.

Prioritize investment in developing environmentally friendly technology

In Berlin, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and his delegation worked with Ms. Schawarzeluhr Sutter, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety, member of the German Parliament.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the Strategic Partnership with Germany, a country that plays an important role in Europe and the world. In recent times, the Vietnam - Germany Strategic Partnership (established in October 2011) has been developing strongly, extensively and effectively in all fields. In addition, the cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies has also been very effective through diverse forms of cooperation, thereby creating conditions for the two countries' legislative bodies to enhance understanding and share experiences in the fields of legislation and supervision.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said that the Vietnamese Government is making efforts to implement many measures to create a favorable environment and conditions for foreign investors, including German ones, to operate effectively in Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung asked Germany to support Vietnam in completing institutions and policies; establishing standards and technical regulations on environmental protection and responding to climate change. In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister also asked Germany to support Vietnam in terms of capital, technology transfer, especially clean and environmentally friendly technology, and human resource development for Vietnam. The Deputy Prime Minister and the Secretary of State agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of wastewater and waste treatment; land management; and management and quality assurance of construction works.

Creating conditions to attract German enterprises to invest

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and the Government delegation also had a working session with Member of Parliament, State Secretary of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Hans Joachim Fuchtel.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung, economic cooperation is an important pillar in the Vietnam - Germany strategic partnership. Emphasizing the priority of infrastructure development, especially transport infrastructure, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung asked Germany - a country with a lot of experience in this field - to support Vietnam in developing highways, especially the North - South expressway; developing high-speed railways; expanding and building new airports; and upgrading the seaport system.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and the State Secretary of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development also discussed solutions to improve the efficiency of ODA capital use, expand preferential credit for vocational training projects following the parallel model, renewable energy (solar energy, wind energy, etc.) and environment (waste treatment, coastal protection, etc.) of Vietnam; provide preferential credit for infrastructure development projects of Vietnam that use German technology.

Vietnamese enterprises in Germany are investment bridges

Speaking at the meeting, representatives of Vietnamese enterprises in Germany said that although there are many potentials and advantages, attracting investment from German enterprises to Vietnam is still limited. Therefore, it is recommended that the Government should take measures to attract leading German enterprises to invest. If Vietnam attracts some large German corporations and enterprises, then certainly smaller enterprises will also expand their operations because they believe in the efficiency and experience of large, reputable enterprises.

Representatives of the business community also proposed to the Deputy Prime Minister and the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany to allow the establishment of a consulting group consisting of representatives of ministries, branches, the Embassy and a number of Vietnamese enterprises to study projects suitable for German enterprises, thereby effectively calling for investment. In addition, the Government needs to have solutions to encourage overseas Vietnamese enterprises to invest in the country.
