(Baonghean.vn) - While cleaning the house, Hoa discovered drugs under the bed. Knowing that the drugs belonged to her husband who had just passed away, Hoa hid them and tried to sell them, but was arrested.

On July 7, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of Nguyen Thi Hoa (born in 1967), residing in Dong Vinh ward, Vinh city, for the crime of illegal drug trafficking. Having been in prison, her husband became addicted and then passed away, but Hoa continued to follow in her own footsteps.

At the end of November 2019, Nguyen Thi Hoa was cleaning the house when she discovered a package of crystal meth and a package of heroin in her husband's bed. Because her husband was a drug addict and had just passed away, Hoa knew that the drugs belonged to her husband and hid them with the intention of selling them for money.

On the morning of February 19, 2020, a man named Hung, a friend of Hoa's husband, called to buy drugs. After agreeing on a price, the two parties arranged to meet on a street in Truong Thi ward to make the transaction. Hoa then put all the drugs in a cigarette package and delivered the goods by motorbike. However, before Hoa could make the drug transaction, she was arrested by the police along with evidence of 53.52 grams of drugs.

In court, Nguyen Thi Hoa stated that she was arrested while planning to sell the drugs for 6 million VND. The female defendant cried and asked for a lighter sentence.

The panel of judges determined that in this case, the defendant had mitigating circumstances such as her honest confession, her family had contributed to the revolution... Considering the case in its entirety, the court sentenced Nguyen Thi Hoa to 13 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking. Previously, Hoa was sentenced twice by the Vinh City People's Court to 27 months and 24 months in prison in 1997 and 2012 for drug-related crimes.
