Building Vinh into a modern city of the country

On the morning of October 6, Vinh city solemnly held the ceremony to celebrate the 230th anniversary of Phuong Hoang Trung Do and the 10th anniversary of the city becoming a class 1 urban area.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Le Doan Hop - Former Minister of Information and Communications, former Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee; Major General Ha Tan Tien - Deputy Commander of Military Region 4; Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of religious organizations in the area, representatives of the armed forces, and heroic Vietnamese mothers.

Attending the ceremony were also leaders of neighboring cities: Bien Hoa, Hue, Dong Ha, Dong Hoi, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Viet Tri; and leaders of districts, cities and towns in Nghe An province.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Hoai An - Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee highlighted the city's glorious historical milestones over the past 230 years. Exactly 230 years ago, in 1788, on the lightning-fast march towards Thang Long Capital, defeating 290,000 Qing troops, under the eyes of military genius Nguyen Hue, Vinh appeared as a place:“The terrain is spacious and the weather is good, it can be chosen to build a new capital. It is truly a beautiful place to build a capital.”and was chosen by Emperor Quang Trung to build the capital. Although Phoenix Trung Do did not come true, it opened an important milestone in the formation and development of Vinh city.

After 230 years of construction, development and growth, Vinh city has become one of the fastest and most sustainable developing cities in the country. In the early 20th century, Vinh was a major industrial city in the Central region.

After the Paris Agreement (1973), peace was restored in the North. On May 1, 1974, former Deputy Prime Minister Do Muoi laid the first brick to rebuild the city. After 20 years of construction and development, on August 13, 1993, Vinh city was recognized as a type II urban area. On September 30, 2005, the Prime Minister issued Decision 239/QD-TTg approving the Project "Developing Vinh city into an economic and cultural center of the North Central region". On September 5, 2008, Vinh city was recognized by the Prime Minister as a type I urban area under Nghe An province.

Identifying the important position of Nghe An and Vinh city, on July 30, 2013, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW on the direction and tasks of developing Nghe An province until 2020, the Prime Minister issued Decision 2468/QD-TTg approving the Project to develop Vinh city into the economic and cultural center of the North Central region until 2020.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee also affirmed: After 10 years of being a class I urban area, 5 years of implementing Resolution 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo and Decision 2468/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, Vinh has achieved important results. Vinh City has developed into a spacious and modern city, investing heavily in overpasses, roads, bus stations, airports, high-end urban areas, commercial centers, industrial parks, gradually connecting with Cua Lo by resorts and seaports to meet integration requirements, and is gradually becoming a regional center.

The city's economy continued to grow, with an average growth rate of 8.63%; added value increased by 11.38%; average income per capita in 2018 was estimated at 85 million VND/person; the city's annual budget revenue increased by 17.64%, reaching nearly 2,500 billion VND in 2017, the poverty rate decreased to 0.53%.

Tourism revenue increased by an average of 15.8% per year. The city is a leader in the application of science and technology in medicine, agriculture, production and business. The Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee also proposed 5 important solutions to build a modern and civilized Vinh in the coming time.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the great efforts and achievements that the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of Vinh city have achieved, especially the achievements in the 10 years since becoming a class 1 urban area. The economy has developed steadily, the cultural and social fields have received attention, and the great solidarity bloc has become increasingly stronger.

To soon build Vinh into an economic and cultural center of the North Central region, comrade Le Xuan Dai suggested that Vinh city needs to implement synchronous economic development solutions, be proactive, integrate, and continue to invest in infrastructure. Proactively coordinate with the Central and the province to build Vinh into a modern urban area of ​​the country, an urban area worthy of the region. Continue to build the great national unity bloc, do a good job of party building, promote administrative work, and streamline the team.

Comrade Le Xuan Dai also hopes that with the heroic tradition and the attention of the Central Government and the province, Vinh city will be increasingly built and become an attractive destination for the whole country.

On behalf of Vinh city leaders, comrade Vo Viet Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee - Secretary of Vinh City Party Committee thanked and accepted the province's guidance and promised to be determined to build Vinh city to become more and more developed, prosperous and civilized.

At the ceremony, Vinh city was honored to receive the Emulation Flag of the Government, the leading unit in the patriotic emulation movement in 2017.
