Another outbreak of African swine fever appeared in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) - Test results showed that the dead pigs at Mr. Nguyen Quang Ngan's farm in hamlet 10, Nam Nghia commune, Nam Dan district tested positive for African swine fever.

From March 30 to 31, Mr. Ngan's pigs started to die, so he immediately reported it to the veterinary agency and local authorities.

Upon receiving the news, the veterinary staff of Nam Dan district inspected the pigs. The sick pigs showed clinical signs of high fever, loss of appetite, unsteady walking, constipation... On the afternoon of March 31, the veterinary unit took samples to test for African swine fever... The test results at noon on April 1 showed that the dead pigs at Mr. Ngan's house were positive for African swine fever.

It is known that before that, Mr. Ngan's family had taken soybean dregs and wine dregs from Vinh City to feed the pigs.

That same afternoon, the authorities destroyed 77 pigs of Mr. Ngan’s family with a total weight of 1,913 kg. At the same time, they increased the sprinkling of lime and spraying of chemicals to prevent the spread of the disease.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung - Chairman of Nam Nghia Commune People's Committee said: The whole commune has more than 1,600 pigs, mainly concentrated in 48 large and small farms. After testing positive for African swine fever, the commune set up 2 checkpoints in the commune. One checkpoint is located at the commune's gateway, the other is located in the hamlet where the epidemic occurred; absolutely prohibiting the transportation of pigs in and out of the area.

Thus, Nam Dan is the third locality in the province to have dead pigs testing positive for African swine fever, after Quynh Luu and Tan Ky districts. It is worth noting that the African swine fever epidemic is evolving in a very unpredictable manner.

Nam Dan district currently has 38,209 pigs; including 13,144 sows and 24,874 pigs for meat. In addition to small-scale households, the district has 31 pig farms. The district has provided 600 liters of chemicals for disinfection to communes; at the same time, chemicals and lime powder have been increased in Nam Nghia commune to fight the epidemic.
