The roadbed subsidence on National Highway 16 through Chuoi slope is nearly 50m long, forcing the management unit to ban heavy vehicles from traveling.

According to information from the People's Committee of Que Phong district, from July 12 to 15, 2024, heavy rain often occurred in Que Phong district, scattered and localized in some places. In particular, on the evening of July 14, heavy rain caused subsidence of the road surface at Chuoi slope (section Km264+700), on National Highway 16, passing through Chau Kim commune.

Inspection showed that the road subsided for about 46m, with cracks on both sides about 20-35cm deep, causing many difficulties for vehicles traveling on this route.

Immediately after the road subsidence incident occurred, the People's Committee of Que Phong district coordinated with the district police and Que Phong Traffic Department to implement road surface compensation and place warning signs at the subsidence location. At the same time, 2 checkpoints were set up to prohibit heavy vehicles from traveling, one at Km260+700 and the other at Km270+100, both located on National Highway 16.

It is known that Chuoi slope is about 3 km long, has a steep slope, many sharp turns, especially the section Km264+700 is a place where landslides and slides often occur. With this situation, it is forecasted that in the upcoming rainy season, this area will also have a great risk of landslides.

In addition to the Chuoi slope area, on the night of July 13, heavy rain also caused Puc village bridge (Nam Giai commune), on the Chau Kim - Nam Giai route, to be severely damaged, and currently cars are still unable to pass through.
