Although the results were negative for African swine fever, the authorities still instructed people to monitor and prevent the disease for the entire pig herd, especially advising against selling sick pigs.

On March 20, Mr. Luyen Van Doan's family (Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district) currently has 2 sick pigs. Mr. Doan said: The family's two pigs have been raised for 4 months now, and now weigh about 40 kg each. "3 days ago, I saw a pig stop eating and called a veterinarian to give it a shot but it did not get better. I saw a lot of talk about African swine fever on TV, so I reported it to the village chief, then the commune and district veterinarians came to check and take samples for testing" - Mr. Doan said.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ha - Chairman of the People's Committee of Do Thanh commune said: Currently, there are 4 sick pigs in the commune. Of which, 2 belong to Mr. Nguyen Van Bon's household in Sung Yen hamlet, 2 belong to Mr. Luyen Van Doan's household in Xuan Lai hamlet. On March 17, the veterinary agency took samples for testing, and on the morning of March 19, the locality received the results that were negative for African swine fever. However, the locality is continuing to closely monitor the pig herd in the commune, instructing farmers to report when pigs are sick.

Through inspection and control work, it was found that Do Thanh commune currently has 700 pigs, including one farm with about 300 pigs. Immediately after detecting sick pigs, the district provided the commune with 15 liters of disinfectant chemicals. On March 19, the commune deployed chemical spraying at pig farms and on main roads and markets in the commune.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Thanh district, in response to the situation of some sick pigs in Do Thanh commune, the district has directed localities to strengthen the prevention of African swine fever. In particular, focusing on monitoring at pig farms. When pigs are sick, the veterinary agency will directly inspect and if there are symptoms of African swine fever, samples will be taken immediately for testing. The district requires households not to sell or consume sick pigs.

Along with that, strengthen inspection of slaughtering at slaughterhouses as well as small-scale slaughterhouses at households; Control the transportation and trading of pigs in the area; Spray disinfectant chemicals in pig farming areas...
