20 years in prison for former police officer who trafficked drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - Greedy for immediate profits, former police officer Le Ngoc Nhat (born in 1988; residing in Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district, Nghe An) received 20 years in prison for illegally buying and selling 514.66 grams of methamphetamine.
On November 28, the Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendants Le Ngoc Nhat (born 1988), residing in Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district, and Trinh Van Thanh (born 1992), residing in hamlet 4, Nghia Khanh commune, Nghia Dan district, for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics"; Defendant Nguyen Cong Don (born 1965), residing in Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district, was tried for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".

According to the indictment, on April 16, 2018, Le Ngoc Nhat received a phone call from Trinh Van Thanh saying that a woman wanted to buy 25 packages of drugs for 7 million VND/package. After the deal was done, Nhat ordered 20 packages from a Lao man for 3.5 million VND/package and was given 7 more packages of drugs by the man.
On April 17, 2018, at the intersection of Thai Hoa town, Le Ngoc Nhat delivered 27 packages of methamphetamine weighing 507.73 grams to Trinh Van Thanh to resell to a woman in Do Luong for 7 million VND/package.
At around 10pm on April 17, Thanh drove a white Exiter motorbike to the Do Luong District Post Office and stopped at a night porridge shop. There, when the defendant was about to make a transaction for the woman to check the goods, he was caught red-handed by the police.
Previously, on April 12, 2018, Nhat asked Nguyen Cong Don to hide a package of methamphetamine weighing 6.93 grams, saying it was for his own use. However, on April 17, 2018, Nhat brought that package of drugs to sell to a person named Hung in Do Luong district for 70,000 VND/pill. Before he could sell it, he was arrested by the police.
The panel of judges determined: The defendants' actions are extremely dangerous to society and need to be severely punished before the law. Based on aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel of judges decided to sentence Le Cong Nhat to 20 years in prison and Trinh Van Thanh to 19 years in prison for "Illegal drug trafficking"; and Nguyen Cong Don to 5 years in prison for "Illegal drug possession". As for the woman who bought the drugs, because she did not have any information, the investigation will be conducted later.
