Vinh General Hospital completes the transfer of percutaneous nephrolithotomy technology using a small tunnel

On January 5, the delegation of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital accepted the technical package "Percutaneous nephrolithotomy using a small tunnel" at Vinh City General Hospital.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy using a small tunnel is a new, specialized, minimally invasive technique, the "gold standard" method for treating large and complex urinary stones.

Vinh City General Hospital has been receiving, training and transferring the technical package "Percutaneous nephrolithotomy using small tunnels" from the Training and Command Center of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital since February 2018.

To ensure the implementation of this advanced technique, the hospital has invested in a standard operating room with a system of modern technical equipment, and sent doctors for training at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.

The team of experts from Viet Duc Hospital has conducted 5 technology transfers directly at Vinh City General Hospital.

According to the assessment of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Tien - Deputy Director of the Training and Guidance Center - Viet Duc Friendship Hospital: "Lower-level hospitals often do not have enough conditions, the initial survey is not good, there are no patients, so it is difficult to complete the technology transfer reception.

Vinh General Hospital is one of the few lower-level hospitals in the country that has completed the transfer process in a systematic, effective and timely manner. Up to now, the hospital has successfully transferred the technique of percutaneous nephrolithotomy using a small tunnel and the hospital's doctors have promoted the effectiveness of this technique, and in the near future it can be performed routinely at the hospital.

From February 2018 to present, in the process of receiving technology transfer, Vinh General Hospital has coordinated to successfully perform surgery for 150 patients, becoming the pioneer hospital in the region to deploy this superior technique, bringing benefits to the people of the province; at the same time contributing to reducing costs for upper-level hospitals.
