Soldiers of the 206th Tank Brigade help people of Nghia Thuan commune overcome the consequences of storm No. 10.

Walking on the inter-village roads in Nghia Thuan commune, which are gradually being completed, we see more and more the significance of the military-civilian relationship here. Not only when the movement "Army joins hands to build new rural areas" was widely launched, but for many years now, helping people build roads, providing medical examinations and treatment, providing free medicine... has been one of the regular activities that officers and soldiers of Brigade 206 have carried out.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thang - Political Commissar of Brigade 206 said: "The Party Committee and the unit's commanders are very interested in building a safe and strong locality. Every year, the unit mobilizes hundreds of working days with the locality in the stationed area to participate in rural road construction campaigns, overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, floods, and fires. On holidays, we organize for officers and soldiers to coordinate with the locality in the stationed area to repair and visit martyrs' cemeteries... Every year, the unit also organizes fund allocations to visit and give gifts to families with difficult policies and poor people in the area."

Responding to the movement of joining hands to build new rural areas, Brigade 206 chose Nghia Thuan commune, a locality with many difficulties, to help. With its current capabilities and conditions, the unit prioritizes helping the locality with what the people need, carrying out activities that the unit sees as beneficial to the people... such as building infrastructure; coordinating with the locality to maintain political security, building a safe and strong area... As a result, in 2013, the Brigade participated in thousands of working days to help Nghia Thuan commune concretize 1.5 km and repair more than 3 km of roads, dredge more than 4 km of intra-field canals; helping 4 villages renovate cultural houses, leveling 2 volleyball courts, building a stage... Along with "joining hands" with labor days, officers and soldiers of the unit also save daily expenses to support and provide free medical examination and medicine for people in Nghia Thuan commune with a total amount of 124,270,000 VND.

Storm No. 10 has passed for more than 2 months, but people still remember the efforts of the officers and soldiers of the 206th Tank Brigade to help the locality in times of trouble. Due to the low-lying area and the direct impact of the water from the Lang Me dam, Nghia Thuan commune suffered heavy damage during that flood. All traffic routes in the commune were seriously eroded, trees fell down causing traffic jams, many families had their roofs blown off, fences collapsed, more than 2 hectares of rice ready for harvest were flooded and at risk of being lost. Immediately after the flood receded, the tank soldiers immediately marched to Nghia Thuan commune to help people repair their houses, provide free medical examinations and medicine to people, harvest the crop, repair roads, canals, etc. With the spirit of helping people as if helping their own families, in just a short time, 50 officers and soldiers together with local people initially basically overcame the consequences of the flood.

Standing in front of his newly repaired house, Mr. Nguyen Van Son in Hamlet 21 emotionally said: "Without the help of the officers and soldiers of Brigade 206, I don't know when my family would have been able to overcome the consequences of the flood." We learned that Mr. Son's family is in a very difficult situation. He and his wife are over 70 years old. During the recent flood, the family's level 4 house had its roof completely blown off, and more than 3 sao of rice ready for harvest were submerged in water. Considering the family's situation, Brigade 206 sent 5 officers and soldiers to help harvest all the rice from the field and bring it home, and supported the family with 1.5 million VND to buy tiles and support the labor to re-roof the house.

Saying goodbye to the people of Nghia Thuan commune, I still remember the words of Mr. Bui The Hai - Secretary of the Party Cell of Hamlet 21: "Every time you come back, the village becomes brighter and more bustling".
