(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of March 19, the Executive Committee of the Nghe An Newspaper Youth Union visited and presented gifts to Nguyen Thi Hien, who is being raised at SOS Children's Village Vinh.
Hien is a character in the article."Mother has mental illness, 8th grade girl has to carry her younger sibling to school"on Nghe An Newspaper.
Nguyen Thi Hien (13 years old), from Thanh An commune, Thanh Chuong district, was born without knowing her father. Her mentally ill mother left home and wandered around, so Hien had to go to school and raise her younger sibling alone. Hien's mother, Nguyen Thi Tuyen (43 years old), has a mental illness that is getting worse. Hien has to take care of everything in the house.

After giving birth to her second child, Tuyen often left home, leaving her child behind, and wandered around until late at night. Many times, when she returned home, she would vandalize and throw away all of Hien and her sisters' belongings. With no one to look after her at home, Hien often took her younger sibling to school. On sunny or rainy days, Hien often had to walk, carrying a bag on her shoulder and carrying her younger sibling along the dirt road along the village for more than 4km to get to school.
