Details of admission plan to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted

According to the 10th grade enrollment plan that Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted has just announced, this year the school will enroll 526 students into 15 specialized classes. Of which, there is 1 specialized class for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Information Technology, Literature, History, Geography, French and Russian.

The Math specialized class has 2 specialized classes, Math 1 and Math 2, and 4 Foreign Language specialized classes, including English 1, English 2, and 2 specialized classes implementing the Foreign Language Project. The maximum number of students for each specialized class is 35.

According to regulations, students in the province with good conduct, good academic performance for the entire year of junior high school classes, and good graduation grades are eligible to participate in the entrance exam and be considered for admission to specialized classes. For students from other provinces participating in the entrance exam, the Department of Education and Training will consider and decide.

For the 2 English specialized classes implementing the Foreign Language Project, admission is based on academic results, conduct of 4 years of secondary school and results of international English proficiency certificates.

This year, the entrance examPhan Boi Chau High School for the Giftedwill be held on June 8, 2023, with the subjects including: Math, Literature, Foreign Language and 1 specialized subject. In which, Math, Literature and Foreign Language will take the results from the 10th grade entrance exam of the province.

According to regulations, candidates registering for the first choice to enter specialized classes in Math 1, English 1, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, French must take the corresponding specialized subject exam. Candidates registering for the first choice to enter specialized classes in Information Technology must take the specialized subject exam in Math or Information Technology, candidates registering for specialized classes in Russian must take the specialized subject exam in English.

In addition, candidates can also register for the second choice. Candidates taking the Literature exam can register for the second choice in the History or Geography class.

Candidates who register for the specialized subject of Math can register for admission to the second choice of the specialized IT class or the specialized Math class 2.

Candidates who register for the specialized subject of Chemistry can register for admission to the second choice of Biology specialized class or Math specialized class 2.

Candidates registering for the Physics and Biology specialized exam can register for admission to the Math 2 specialized class as their second choice.

Candidates who register for the English major exam can register for admission to the Russian major class or English major class 2.

This year, the subjects of Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, and Geography will be tested in essay format. Meanwhile, the specialized Foreign Language subject will include essay, multiple choice, and listening comprehension, and the Information Technology subject will be in the form of computer programming.

Exam scores are calculated on a 10-point scale. If the exam is graded on a different scale, the exam scores must be converted to a 10-point scale. Exam score coefficients: non-specialized exam scores are calculated with a coefficient of 1, specialized exam scores are calculated with a coefficient of 3. The time for specialized exam is 150 minutes.

In the 2022-2023 school year, the whole province has 1,500 applications to take the entrance exam to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. Of which, the largest number of applications is for the English specialized class with 286 applications, followed by the Literature specialized classes (221 applications), Math specialized classes (166 applications), Chemistry specialized classes (169 applications), Physics specialized classes (144 applications), Biology specialized classes (114 applications) and Russian specialized classes (107 applications). The number of applications for Geography specialized classes, History specialized classes and French specialized classes is lower, under 100 applications.
