Contacted 35 people who went into the forest to pick bamboo shoots during the flood in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn)- On the evening of July 19, 35 people who went to pick bamboo shoots in Chau Binh commune, mountainous district of Quy Chau (Nghe An) were able to contact their relatives at home.
Mr. Lang Xuan Chinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district confirmed the information and said that currently all 35 people are in the forest area upstream of Hieu river and are safe from the flood.

Previously, in Chau Binh commune, 41 people went to pick bamboo shoots and encountered the flood, unable to return home. When the floodwaters rose, the local authorities searched for them but only 6 people could be contacted, the rest were unreachable. The local authorities sent people to search the river and stream areas.

On July 18, 53 other people from Quy Chau district went into the forest to pick bamboo shoots and returned home safely before the storm hit. On the morning of July 19, the district authorities in conjunction with the communes had to rescue those stranded and isolated in huts to safety.

Mr. Le Hai Ly - Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention, Search and Rescue of Quy Chau district said that the impact of storm No. 3 caused heavy to very heavy rain in this area. On the morning of July 19, the entire district had 16 spillways flooded. Inter-commune traffic routes in the communes of Hoa Tien, Chau Tien, Chau Hoi, Chau Nga, Chau Thuan, Chau Binh were eroded and deeply flooded.
Currently, the entire district has 2 houses with roofs blown off and collapsed, 11 houses flooded, 2 houses with landslides. Quy Chau has mobilized 18/198 households to evacuate from the danger zone.
From 2:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on July 19, 2018, in Quy Chau district, the average rainfall was 53.6 mm. Nam Pong Hydropower Plant discharged 3 gates, the flow through 2 turbines was 600 m3/s; Chau Thang Hydropower Plant discharged 3 gates, discharging 500 m3/s. At 2:00 p.m. on July 19, Chau Thang Hydropower Plant continued to discharge 2 more gates, bringing the total to 6 gates with a discharge flow of over 1,200 m3/s.
Faced with the above situation, the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control of Quy Chau district directed households along Hieu river including Chau Thang, Chau Tien, Chau Binh and Tan Lac town to evacuate from the affected area to ensure safety of life and property.
