However, according to the delegate from Quy Hop district, the sad reality is that orange growers are turning their backs on orange trees by destroying them to switch to other crops that are less effective.

There are many reasons, but according to the delegate of the Quy Hop district election unit, there are 3 main reasons: Planning and State management of plant varieties are still loose, and diseases are complicated.

Mr. Vi Van Quy asked Director of Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Thanh Vinh to inform about the responsibility attached to the solutions of the department in the coming time to overcome the above situation.

Responding to questions, Director of Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Thanh Vinh explained: Vinh oranges used to be a brand, bringing in very high profits, at one point 1 hectare of oranges reached 1 billion VND in revenue, so they developed rapidly, not according to planning.

The head of Nghe An's agriculture sector said that now the Phu Quy orange growing area (with the focus on Quy Hop - PV) has shifted to Anh Son, Thanh Chuong, and Yen Thanh districts.

According to Mr. Phung Thanh Vinh, the reason is that the entire region cannot control input varieties and production processes, so diseases occur in orange trees after 2 production and business periods. The use of fertilizers and plant protection products not following technical procedures also causes soil degradation, so some newly put-in-business orange gardens have to be cut down.

The decline of the orange area in Quy Hop district also greatly affects the plan to develop key crops in Nghe An. Mr. Phung Thanh Vinh said: In the Key Citrus Project, the area of orange trees is expected to be 6,100 hectares by 2025, but currently there are more than 3,000 hectares, but according to him, in reality there are about more than 1,700 hectares.

Poor control has led to the decline of the Quy Hop orange growing area. The Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An Province said that it is the responsibility of the agricultural sector, as well as local authorities and Party committees, for poor planning management and insufficient review of technical processes.

Regarding the solution, the head of Nghe An Agriculture Department said that the department has submitted to the Provincial People's Committee a program to restore and develop Vinh oranges; accordingly, it will be implemented systematically, re-evaluating the planning of how much area is capable of applying technical requirements and soil quality to ensure orange growing to proceed with restoration such as planting legumes and melons.

The remaining orange area continues to be intensively cultivated, applying scientific advances to take good care of it and continuing to expand and connect to the market to maintain the Vinh orange brand.
