(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of September 25, after an online meeting organized by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Nghe An continued to meet to direct the implementation of plans to proactively respond to storm Noru under the chairmanship of comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Proactive response measures

According to the report of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense, as of 10:00 a.m. on September 25, Nghe An had 3,009 vehicles with 13,778 workers anchored at the port; 339 vehicles/2,019 workers were operating at sea; no vehicles were in dangerous areas.

The whole province has 20,583 hectares of aquaculture; and people have been regularly informed by the media about the developments of storm Noru to proactively take preventive measures and minimize damage.

Nghe An has also harvested 73,783 ha/108,770 ha of summer-autumn crop; of which, rice 60,328 ha/82,604 ha, corn 4,120 ha/10,719 ha, peanuts 274 ha/626 ha... Currently, people are urgently harvesting the remaining 22,276 ha of rice according to the criterion "green at home is better than ripe in the field".

Of the 1,061 large and small lakes and dams, about 65% have been filled to capacity and are being operated according to the approved disaster prevention and control plan, of which two large lakes, Vuc Mau Lake and Song Sao Lake, have spilled over.

There are 22 hydropower reservoirs in operation in the province, of which 8 reservoirs (Ban Ve, Khe Bo, Chi Khe, Nam Non, Nam Mo, Ban Ang, Nhan Hac and Chau Thang) are implementing the Inter-reservoir Operation Process on the Ca River Basin and the remaining reservoirs are operating according to the single-reservoir process; all have approved plans for natural disaster prevention and control, dam and reservoir safety plans.

Other small hydropower plants are operating normally according to the single-lake process approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Provincial People's Committee.

Be alert to potential safety risks

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu requested relevant localities, units and sectors to focus on immediately implementing plans toproactive responsewith storm

Continue to closely monitor the storm's developments, have plans to protect the lives and property of the people and the State; prepare rescue forces and equipment. Urgently organize to reinforce signs, houses, public works, industrial parks, factories, warehouses, coastal projects under construction, and high-rise towers.

Direct the work of ensuring safety of sea dykes and river dykes, especially at vulnerable locations or locations under construction; be ready to drain floodwaters to protect agricultural production, urban areas and industrial zones at risk of flooding.

The province still has more than 40 landslide-prone areas, concentrated in mountainous areas and downstream areas with many potential risks of insecurity during storms. Localities need to immediately deploy shock forces to inspect and review unsafe houses, residential areas along rivers, streams, outside river banks, areas at risk of flooding, landslides, flash floods, and mineral exploitation areas; prepare plans to evacuate people to safe places, ensuring absolute safety for people's lives during storms.

In addition, there is a plan to protect 8 reservoirs under construction and 7 weak reservoirs in the area, especially paying attention to lakes and dams with a capacity of over 1 million m3.3”,

“After this meeting, members of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense have been assigned, inspected and directed to implement storm prevention and control measures to minimize damage. Although the storm is forecast to hit the Central Central region, we must not be complacent,” the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized.
