Power shortage forecast in 2016
(Baonghean.vn)- 2016 continues to be forecasted to be a difficult year for electricity production activities, especially hydropower.
Therefore, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has developed a plan to ensure electricity for 2016. Accordingly, EVN has developed 3 calculation plans to balance electricity supply and demand for 2016 and submitted them to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. All calculation plans ensure electricity supply in 2016 for production, business and people's daily life.

However, EVN also said that supplying electricity to the South is very difficult because additional power sources to the South are still limited and some hydroelectric reservoirs in the Central Highlands and the South may not have enough water to store. Transmission on the 500KV North-South lines is always high throughout the year. Continuously having to transmit to the South with high capacity and output will pose a potential risk of unsafe operation. Therefore, EVN needs the cooperation of the whole society, especially localities, to create favorable conditions to support EVN in site clearance for key grid projects so that they can be completed on time to ensure power generation.
In Nghe An, while the whole province is preparing for the 2016 spring crop - the main crop of the year with over 85,000 hectares of rice, over 12,000 hectares of corn, about 22,000 hectares of peanuts, 24,000 hectares of sugarcane and a number of other crops, the weather is increasingly hot, the rainfall even during the rainy and stormy season has decreased sharply, agricultural production is forecast to face many great difficulties. Therefore, it is very necessary for the electricity industry to provide electricity to fight drought and serve people's lives.
In another development, the Prime Minister has just decided to support 284.5 billion VND for 19 localities from the 2015 central budget reserve to overcome the consequences of drought and saltwater intrusion in the 2014-2015 Winter-Spring crop and the 2015 Summer-Autumn crop. Accordingly, Nghe An province was allocated 22.6 billion VND. This amount cannot handle the situation without solutions to save electricity, especially in offices, urban areas and industrial zones.
