Nearly 300 households in a remote district of Nghe An had to be urgently evacuated due to the high risk of flash floods and landslides.
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, in Ky Son district, there are nearly 300 households in 3 communes of Muong Tip, Muong Ai, My Ly that are in need of urgent evacuation because they live near rivers, streams, near positive slopes or on high mountain slopes with weak geological structure, at high risk of landslides and rockslides.
Every year during the rainy and stormy season, Ky Son district is one of the localities that suffers heavy damage to people and property... caused by floods and landslides.
This year, to ensure the safety of people's lives and property, all levels and sectors of Ky Son district are making efforts to mobilize all resources, focusing on reviewing and relocating households out of the area.
In 2018, Xop Phong village, Muong Ai commune, was one of the localities that suffered heavy damage to people and property, killing 2 people and forcing more than 20 households to evacuate urgently.

The most favorable location chosen for relocation is about 1,500 meters from the old Xop Phong village, on the border patrol route. This area is not far from the old farming area so it does not affect the production of the people. |
“Xop Phong village has been completely eroded, it is uninhabitable, very dangerous. We are currently building houses in the newly moved area, this is the area the district arranged for us to live in, because we have just moved here and it is very difficult, we are not yet assured. I hope the Party and the State will create conditions to help the people.”

After being mobilized, although there has not been any support or investment from the state, the spirit and responsible attitude of the people in proactively implementing plans to avoid floods in 2019 is very good. Up to now, over 50% of households have relocated to new locations and built camps, built barns, raised livestock as well as engaged in production activities to stabilize their lives.

“While waiting for the province's funding, the district has directed the communes to have plans to relocate households in dangerous areas to safe places. Currently, the villages of Muong Tip and Muong Ai have mobilized people to evacuate to safe places. Moving households in areas with high risk of landslides to safe places is an urgent task, especially in the context of the 2019 flood season approaching. Currently, Ky Son district as well as the people hope that Nghe An province as well as the Central Government will pay attention, consider, and arrange funds to relocate people from areas with high risk of landslides to new safe places, helping people feel secure in working and producing, and stabilizing their lives.
