Two police officers were seriously injured by a group suspected of smuggling.

On the evening of March 1, Dong Thap Province Police said that the investigation agency is clarifying the case of a person transporting contraband cigarettes who fell to his death on Highway 30 and is searching for the group of attackers who injured two officers.

Initial verification results show that at around 2:20 p.m. the same day, the Traffic Safety Patrol Team of the Road Traffic Police Department, led by Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Sang, drove a special car carrying soldier Pham Hoang Buu, an officer of the Mobile Police Department, on patrol on National Highway 30, from Cao Lanh district to Hong Ngu town.

On the patrol route to Km40, the patrol team discovered Nguyen Minh Duong (Duong Meo, 25 years old, residing in An Long commune, Tam Nong district) driving a motorbike with license plate number: 66P1-098.51 carrying a pack of contraband cigarettes in the same direction.

The motorbike driven by a young man fell off and died.

The patrol team asked the vehicle to stop for inspection, but the subject did not comply and sped away towards Phu Ninh commune (Tam Nong district). While fleeing, the motorbike driven by the subject fell onto the side of the road, causing serious injury.

Two officers of the working group coordinated with the people to take the subject to the emergency room when a group of subjects blocked the patrol team's special vehicle and attacked, injuring Senior Lieutenant Sang and soldier Buu. Of these, Senior Lieutenant Sang was seriously injured and is being treated in the emergency room of Dong Thap General Hospital.

The smuggler died in hospital due to severe injuries. After the incident, Dong Thap Provincial Police coordinated with other agencies to conduct a crime scene investigation to investigate and track down the group of people who attacked the patrol team.
