Vu Mau Lake releases flood water combined with high tide, Hoang Mai town is heavily flooded
(Baonghean.vn) - In the early morning of September 30, high tide combined with flood discharge from Vuc Mau Lake caused severe flooding in Hoang Mai town.
Early this morning, the water level from upstream poured down, causing flooding in the area.Hoang Mai townare deeply flooded. Currently, 8/10 wards and communes with more than 2,700 households are flooded. In particular, many localities such as Mai Hung ward have more than 1,900 households flooded; Quynh Thien ward has 260 households deeply flooded, Quynh Vinh commune has 162 households with water higher than 1m.
The Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue Committee of Hoang Mai town has directed wards and communes to evacuate nearly 200 households most severely flooded to safe locations. Notably, in Quynh Vinh commune, a bridge collapsed. In addition, more than 15 hectares of rice and more than 400 hectares of vegetables were flooded, along with many aquaculture areas affected.
Due to the rapid floodwaters, travel in Hoang Mai town encountered many difficulties. In particular, National Highway 1A section through Quynh Thien ward was deeply flooded, making it difficult for many vehicles to move. Not to mention the inter-commune and inter-ward roads were also cut off by floodwaters.
Mr. Vu Le Hung - Chairman of Quynh Vinh Commune People's Committee said: The commune is adjacent to Hoang Mai River, so when water from Vuc Mau Lake poured in, it caused many areas to be flooded. In addition, because the water poured in at night and early morning, many households were unable to react in time. Currently, the Militia and Self-Defense Force and the Commune Police have also brought more than 30 deeply flooded households to safety.
Currently, the biggest concern of people in Hoang Mai town is that on the morning of September 30, Hoang Mai Irrigation Enterprise continued to announce the flood discharge of Vuc Mau lake, in which the number of spillways expected to open is from 1-4 gates with an expected flow of 10 to 800m3/second, so flood levels are likely to rise and many areas will be at risk of further flooding.
Mr. Nguyen Huu An - Chairman of Hoang Mai Town People's Committee said: Currently, the town is directing localities to promote the "4 on-site" motto to respond to the flood situation, especially prioritizing the evacuation of people in heavily flooded areas to safety. In addition, the town has also directed functional agencies and drainage system operators to monitor and clear the flow to drain the flood as quickly as possible.
Also according to Mr. An, on the morning of September 30, the town directed the clearing of a public road serving the construction of a coastal road project to drain water in the northern area of the town.
