(Baonghean.vn) - Located in Quynh Yen commune, Quynh Luu district, Lam Son is the largest wooden pagoda in Nghe An. This pagoda has long become a spiritual and religious symbol for local people and visitors from near and far.

On November 8, 2012, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Decision No. 4446/QD-UBND-NC approving the restoration of Lam Son Buddhist temple. The pagoda was built mainly of ironwood and sen wood imported from Africa with a total volume of about 1,200m3.3. The Ancestral Temple area is made entirely of ironwood. The tallest wooden pillar is 7.58m, and the diameter of all pillars is 55cm. Photo: Minh Chau

Located in the middle of the temple yard is a giant Maitreya Buddha stone statue, carved from a single block of Corundum sapphire weighing more than 120 tons. With the skillful craftsmanship of artisans in Da Nang, after more than 6 months of carving, the Maitreya Buddha stone statue was completed, weighing more than 60 tons, 3.2 meters high. The pagoda includes the ancestral worship house; the great hero temple (also known as Tam Bao); on both sides are the bell tower and the drum tower; left and right corridors; the three-entrance gate and other auxiliary works. Lam Son Pagoda was built during the Le Trung Hung period in 1712. In peacetime, the pagoda is a place to shelter monks and pray for the safety of the local people.
