Prosecution of 'drunk' driver who hit traffic police captain, causing brain injury
Seeing the working group, Pham Ngoc Son turned his car around and ran over Captain Nguyen Van Thuong, causing the officer to suffer a traumatic brain injury.
Soc Son District Police (Hanoi) initiated a case and prosecuted Pham Ngoc Son (born 1987, residing in Nam Son Commune) for murder. Son was the driver of the car that seriously injured a traffic police captain on duty.
At around 8:00 p.m. on January 7, a working group of Soc Son District Police handled traffic violations and checked alcohol concentration on Highway 35, in Village 3, Hong Ky Commune.
When seeing the working group, the Hyundai Tucson car with license plate 30G-73013 turned around and ran over Captain Nguyen Van Thuong (officer of the Traffic Police Team, Soc Son District Police) who was standing on the left side of the car.
The strong collision caused Captain Thuong to suffer a traumatic brain injury. Immediately afterward, Soc Son District Police took Captain Thuong to Viet Duc Hospital for emergency treatment and directed a working group to investigate and identify the person who caused the accident.
At the police station, driver Pham Ngoc Son confessed to his actions. The working group checked and tested his blood, showing that the alcohol concentration in his blood was 0.083 mmol/l.
On the afternoon of January 10, General To Lam (Minister of Public Security) visited and encouraged Captain Nguyen Van Thuong, who was being treated at Viet Duc Hospital.
Informing Minister To Lam, Dr. Duong Duc Hung (Director of Viet Duc Hospital) said that immediately after receiving information about the critically injured officer on the way to the hospital, the hospital leadership mobilized highly skilled and specialized doctors to be ready in the emergency room to promptly treat the patient.
With the efforts of the medical team, up to now, the hospital has applied all the most active treatment options and methods to ensure the best for patients.
Minister To Lam thanked the medical team for their dedication and timely treatment of Captain Nguyen Van Thuong. He hoped that the Board of Directors of Viet Duc Hospital would continue to provide the most effective treatment regimen and use the best possible medicine to help the patient recover quickly.
General To Lam praised the spirit of Captain Nguyen Van Thuong in resolutely handling and fighting against crimes and law violations.
