The 230th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory in Nghe An

The celebration is an occasion for people to return to their roots, to remember the merits of King Quang Trung in the cause of repelling the invaders; it is a spiritual and cultural activity, demonstrating the morality of drinking water and remembering its source. This is also an activity that contributes to educating the tradition of patriotism and the spirit of fighting against foreign invaders of the Vietnamese people.

230 years ago, in the Spring of Ky Dau 1789, under the command of Emperor Quang Trung, the Tay Son army won the victory of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da - defeating the Qing army.

On the night of the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, 1789, the Tay Son army surrounded and controlled Ha Hoi fort (about 20 km from Thang Long), threatening, controlling and disintegrating a large Qing army force, opening the campaign to liberate Thang Long. On the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, 1789, the insurgents approached Ngoc Hoi fort.

Early in the morning of the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, 1789, Tay Son troops everywhere attacked and destroyed the fortifications, posts and the entire defense system south of Ngoc Hoi post. At the same time, they coordinated with General Dang Tien Dong's army to launch a surprise attack into Dong Da post area, quickly penetrating deep into the important positions of the Qing army and destroying the enemy command post.

The great victory of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da affirmed the military art of the "plain-clothed hero" Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue, which is: Lightning speed - Boldness - Surprise. With this great victory, our nation crushed the invasion of the Qing army, completely liberated the capital Thang Long, and maintained national independence.
