Nghe An male student shares secret to winning top prize in Thinking Assessment Exam
Surpassing nearly 24,000 candidates, student Nguyen Duc Luong (class 12T1, Do Luong 3 High School) became the valedictorian of the 3rd Thinking Assessment Test of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. This is also the 3rd time he participated in this test with results beyond expectations.
"Third time is too much"
At the end of April, while many friends were excited to enter the holiday season, Nguyen Duc Luong once again "packed up" and went to Vinh City to attend the Thinking Assessment Test of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
This was Luong’s third time taking this exam. Since this was the last exam held this year, before taking the exam, this male student determined that this was his “last chance” to improve his score.

In fact, before that, with the second prize in the Provincial Excellent Student Mathematics Contest, Luong said that he had the opportunity to be admitted to a number of universities. In addition, with the first two exams, he scored 69.5 points (round 1) and 62.5 points (round 2), he could also be admitted to many majors at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
However, not satisfied with himself, Luong was determined to take the exam again so as not to regret it. When he received the exam results with 91.29/100 points, Luong was really happy. He was even more surprised when he learned that he was the valedictorian of the exam. "After finishing the exam, I thought I only got about 80 points and did not expect that I was the candidate with the highest score in this exam. The result made me very happy" - this male student shared.
Also this morning, the Board of Directors of Do Luong 3 High School came to present flowers and congratulate Nguyen Duc Luong. Sharing about his student, teacher Hong Canh Truong - homeroom teacher of class 12T1 said: With Luong's inherent qualities, I am not too surprised with the score he achieved. This is an intelligent student, with will, determination and never afraid of difficulties and hardships. His success will be a motivation for many other students of the school and I believe that he is very close to his dream of going to university.

More and more students are taking part in the Aptitude Test and the Thinking Test. In our class, this rate is close to 100%. Therefore, not only me but also other teachers have to adapt, self-study, and explore new ways of testing to support students. However, to achieve high results, I think the students' internal strength is very important.

Overcoming "weakness"
Talking about the Thinking Assessment Test, Nguyen Duc Luong admitted that he is an experienced candidate. Because after the first two tests with only "moderate" scores, Luong reviewed his own limitations to make adjustments: Math is my advantage, so in previous tests, my Math scores were all 37.38/40 points. However, in the reading comprehension test (Literature) and scientific thinking test (Physics - Chemistry and Biology), my scores were quite low. I think this is a weakness that I need to overcome.
To fill this gap, Luong said that he and his friends bought some online review packages and did the tests themselves to get used to the way the questions are given based on thinking. In addition, Luong sought out teachers at school to supplement his knowledge.

In the 3 parts of the exam, the Reading Comprehension part is quite new and has a lot of knowledge outside of the textbook. The rest of the exam parts all apply the knowledge learned at school. After knowing my limitations, I followed the advice of my teachers, which is to have a firm grasp of the basic knowledge and study closely according to the program. In addition, I know how to apply the knowledge learned into practice.

During the process of taking the thinking assessment test, this male student said that the structure of the assessment test and the regular test are quite different.
In particular, the test has many confusing questions with many similar answers, making it easy for candidates to get confused. Therefore, according to Luong, the experience when taking a thinking assessment test is to read the questions carefully, read the answers carefully to find the correct answer.
Besides, some knowledge questions are not difficult but require students to have thinking skills to be able to solve the exercises. To do these types of questions, you have to practice a lot.
To complete the thinking assessment test, Luong also said that candidates were under a lot of time pressure. Specifically, for the math and science thinking tests, candidates only had 60 minutes but had to answer 40 questions each.
In the reading comprehension section, candidates only have 30 minutes to answer 2 large exercises (10 questions each), which is also a challenge for students majoring in natural sciences.

Talking about the test-taking process, Luong shared: In Math, I didn’t seem to have any difficulty, so I did every question I encountered right away and didn’t have to check again. But in other parts of the test, I skipped any questions that I knew I couldn’t answer within 30 seconds. Later, when I finished the easy questions, I returned to the difficult questions so as not to waste time.
With a fairly solid strategy, Nguyen Duc Luong passed the third exam with a solid score. In particular, Math is his advantage, so Luong did almost perfectly. In the science exam, Luong also overcame his limitations in knowledge to reach 32/40 points. In particular, in the reading comprehension section, he achieved 18/20 points, a score beyond expectations...

With this result, Nguyen Duc Luong hopes that he will be able to reach the school of his dreams. This is also the school that Luong's brother is studying at and he hopes to continue the family tradition.
This male student also shared that although his parents are both workers, they always encourage their children to study to have a bright future. In particular, despite failures, his parents always believe in and encourage him to overcome difficulties and believe in himself.
The trust of parents and teachers is also the motivation for Luong brothers to try and achieve many good results in their studies and once again create a miracle, contributing to a successful exam season for Do Luong 3 High School./.
