(Baonghean.vn) - As of August 9, in Nghe An, 100 communes in 18 districts, towns and cities have been declared free of African swine fever.

Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine said: Currently, the epidemic is mainly spreading from one household to another in the villages, hamlets and communes where the epidemic is occurring. The "hottest" localities are: Quynh Thanh, Quynh Bang (Quynh Luu); Nhan Thanh, Phuc Thanh, Hau Thanh, Dong Thanh (Yen Thanh), Tri Le, Quang Phong, Cam Muon (Que Phong), Quang Son (Do Luong).

Mr. Quynh advised that although pork prices are on the rise, people should not rush to restock at this time, because the epidemic is still complicated. Localities need to step up propaganda to encourage people to improve environmental sanitation in barns; when the epidemic is under control, people should invest in biosafety farming, which is the only key to repelling the epidemic, in the context of no vaccine to treat African swine fever.

In the province, there are currently 3 districts and towns that have not had an epidemic (Nghia Dan, Thai Hoa town and Cua Lo); there are 5 districts that have no epidemic: Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Nghi Loc.

In the province, as of August 9, African swine fever had occurred in 2,494 households, 471 hamlets, 159 communes, and 18 districts. The total number of pigs culled was 10,436 (accounting for more than 1% of the province's total pig herd), with a total weight of 480,640 kg.
