On August 26, 2019, the People's Committee of Quy Chau district said: it proposed and was approved by the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee in principle, assigning the District People's Court to conduct mobile trials of cases of illegal deforestation in Chau Thuan commune.

According to researchThe three detained cases are family members of forest owners Vi Van Hoa, residing in Men village, who illegally cut down more than 1,445 hectares of forest; Cam Ba Thom, residing in Chieng village, who illegally cut down 1,439 hectares of forest; Cam Ba Dai, residing in Chang village, who illegally cut down 1,053 hectares of forest.

The remaining 31 cases (including 2 village chiefs) illegally cut down forests with a total area of ​​over 7.4 hectares. Of these, 26 cases were administratively fined with the amount ranging from 5 million VND to 11 million VND/case; 5 cases were administratively fined with the same amount of 2.65 million VND/case.

The total administrative fines of 31 cases is more than 185 million VND.

In cases of illegal deforestation, in addition to being fined, the District People's Committee will also consider and reclaim forest land previously assigned by the state.

Currently, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quy Chau district is coordinating with functional departments, the Forest Protection Department, and the People's Committee of Chau Thuan commune to complete the procedural documents to request the People's Committee of Quy Chau district to carry out the recovery.

Quy Chau District People's Committee also directed the Department of Internal Affairs to compile records and consider handling responsibilities of officials and party members of Chau Thuan commune in forest management and protection.
