Nghe An: Raising frogs with fish, feeding them garlic and drinking pot grass water earns hundreds of millions

After researching and learning from frog farming models combined with fish farming in some southern provinces, in early 2019, Mr. Thuc boldly invested in building 8 cages, each cage is 10 - 12 m wide.²right on the family pond surface and bought 5,000 commercial frogs to raise.

After 2 months of care, the frogs weighed 4-5 per kilogram, earning him a profit of over 12 million VND. Realizing that frogs are easy to raise and bring in a good income, Mr. Thuc has expanded the herd to 10,000 frogs. It is expected that in this third batch, he will sell 1.4 tons to the market, with an average selling price of 45,000 VND/kg, his family will have a total revenue of nearly 70 million VND. Thus, Mr. Thuc's annual revenue from frogs reaches over 100 million VND, excluding expenses.

Mr. Thuc said: Inside each net cage, he connects bamboo rafts and plants water hyacinth to create a substrate for the frogs to live in. At the same time, he places foam sheets at the bottom of the cage to float, creating a place for the frogs to sunbathe and eat food. During the breeding process, he regularly feeds the frogs garlic to create antibiotics, helping the animals resist diseases. Furthermore, twice a month, he uses Eclipta prostrata to boil water for the frogs to drink, preventing intestinal diseases.

In particular, for frogs to grow and develop well, the water source must be clean, so he periodically treats it with lime powder or potassium permanganate. Thanks to that, his family's frogs always increase in weight quickly.

In the early stages of the fry, 3-7 days, Mr. Thuc screens and divides the sizes of the fry into separate cages, avoiding the situation where the big ones eat the small ones. Mr. Thuc also covers the frog cages carefully. According to him, when the weather changes, especially during rains, the frogs can easily get heat shock, get sick and die, so he always covers the top to prevent disease and also prevent the frogs from jumping out.

Currently, the main food of frogs is trash fish and fish, so by raising them in a pond, the fish have created a local food source for the frogs. Along with that, taking advantage of excess food, waste and frog skin when molting to make food for fish. Therefore, it has helped him save a part of the investment cost.

Currently, he has found a market to continue expanding the area, cage scale and increasing the number of frogs raised. At the same time, he raises 100 pairs of frogs for breeding, to create a local source of breed. Up to this point, in Quynh Giang commune, Mr. Thuc is the first person to implement the frog farming model combined with fish release and has brought about clear results.
