Nghe An: Growing onions brings in 70 billion VND in revenue
(Baonghean.vn) - Scallions are easy to grow, have a quick harvest time and low investment capital, so they are very economically efficient. Every year, people in Bai Ngang area, Quynh Luu district can rotate planting 3-5 batches of onions, each batch lasting 40-55 days. If well cared for and following the correct technical process, 1 sao of scallion will yield about 1.3 tons/crop.

The Bai Ngang area of Quynh Luu district (Quynh Luong, Quynh Minh, Quynh Bang) currently has about 700 hectares specializing in growing vegetables. Of which, up to 50% of the area is used to grow onions. Each year, this area supplies markets and supermarkets nationwide with over 17,000 tons of onions, worth over 70 billion VND. In Quynh Luong commune alone, there are currently 215 hectares specializing in growing vegetables, of which nearly 70% are dedicated to growing green onions. Each year, the entire commune supplies the market with over 5,000 tons of onions, worth over 30 billion VND.
Currently, people in the localities are busy planting new onion crops. Onions are a crop with high economic value, with an average income of 270 million VND/ha/year, 1.5 - 2 times higher than other vegetables. Therefore, in addition to identifying onions as the main crop, the communes in Bai Ngang area of the district are currently having many support policies and mechanisms to encourage people to invest so that the Quynh Luu onion brand can reach out to larger markets.
