(Baonghean.vn) - In 2022, according to the results of 3 periodic environmental monitoring sessions with 8 parameters, air quality in Vinh city and water quality at some beaches showed signs of exceeding the permissible limits.

At the Workshop on the implementation of the project to propagate and mobilize waste treatment and combat greenhouse gas emissions in Vinh city on the morning of February 17, assessing the environmental situation in Nghe An province comprehensively, a representative of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment said that the environmental monitoring program in Nghe An province is deployed at 23 locations. These are locations in tourist areas; mineral exploitation areas and factories; the outskirts of industrial parks and industrial clusters; the outskirts of landfills, traffic intersections, urban areas and 1 automatic gas monitoring station in Vinh city.

Periodic monitoring results with 8 parameters over 3 periods in 2022 show that the values of basic analysis parameters are all below the allowable standard threshold.

However, the measurement results at the automatic gas monitoring station in Vinh city showed that some parameters exceeded the allowable limits of QCVN 05:2013/BTNMT. However, the concentration level exceeded was low and only recorded on some days of the year.

Specifically, the concentration of NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) exceeded the QCVN standard 4/365 days. The concentration of SO2 (sulfur dioxide) exceeded the standard 1/365 days. The highest concentration was TSP (total suspended particulate matter) with 5/365 days exceeding the standard. Some other indicators exceeded the standard from 1-3 days/365 days of measurement.

Assessment according to the periodic environmental monitoring program in Nghe An province in 2022 with 53 surface water samples (including 24 parameters), 13 coastal seawater samples (12 parameters) shows that, in general, the surface water quality in the Lam River system and tributaries of the independent coastal river system... shows signs of pollution by common organic and inorganic parameters, some heavy metals (Cd, Mn, Fe, Pb, As...) and E.coli bacteria.

Compared to the surface water quality in 2021, the surface water quality in 2022 did not have many fluctuations, the pollution concentration and the number of parameters exceeding the standard decreased; there were no signs of pollution by the group of plant protection chemical parameters. Some lakes in Vinh city showed signs of E.Coli bacteria pollution.

Ammonium in water is a pollutant caused by animal waste, sewage and bacterial contamination. Ammonium is not too toxic to human and animal health, but if ammonium exists in water beyond the allowable threshold, it can transform into a carcinogen or cause other dangerous diseases.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment's assessment also said that coastal seawater environment through water quality monitoring results showed continued signs of pollution with TSS (total suspended solids), NH4+ (ammonium), F (fluoride) and Fe (iron).

Seawater quality at beaches has not changed much compared to 2021, with only slight pollution at some monitoring points in some large beaches such as Lan Chau, Cua Lo, Cua Hoi, Bai Lu, and Quynh Phuong./.
