(Baonghean.vn) - These days, around 5 pm, Yen Thanh people flock to the irrigation canals to bathe to cool off. What is especially dangerous is that many people, including children, do not have life jackets, while people drown in these canals every year.

In recent days, the peak of the heat wave in Yen Thanh district has reached 42 degrees Celsius. To "cool off", around 5 p.m., many people in Tang Thanh and Xuan Thanh communes... flocked to the N8 irrigation canal through Yen Thanh town to swim. (Photo taken on the afternoon of May 5). At this N8 canal section, which is about 10 meters wide and 2 meters deep, there are 2 swirling points, however, according to our observations in this area, we did not see any drowning warning signs. It is very dangerous for children to risk their lives and jump from the bridge into the canal. Photo: Hai An

It is known that from 2021 to now, Yen Thanh district has installed nearly 100 drowning warning signs in dangerous locations prone to drowning, including the Do Luong canal system (section passing through Yen Thanh district), and reservoirs. Localities have also deployed the installation of "tire ladders" with life buoys along the Do Luong canal system with a length of over 20 km to prevent drowning; however, the N8 canal has not been installed with warning signs or a life buoy system. From 2022 to now, the N8 canal section passing through Tang Thanh commune and Yen Thanh town has had 2 drowning incidents. It is recommended that local authorities and relevant sectors take measures to propagate and prevent drowning. Photo: Hai An
