(Baonghean.vn) - Update on the progress of the acacia wilt disease in Quy Chau district shows that the rate of spread causing mass tree deaths is quite serious. Quy Chau Agricultural Service Center is urgently recommending and guiding people on preventive measures.

On March 12, officials from the Quy Chau District Agricultural Service Center said that many acacia gardens in the area have been infected with a fungal disease. If the infected acacia trees are not detected and removed in time, the disease will spread widely, causing the acacia trees to die en masse.

Ms. Vi Thi Thuy's family in Ke Le village, Chau Hoi commune has 1.4 hectares of acacia trees planted for 3 years. Recently, when visiting the acacia garden, she discovered that many acacia trees had wilted leaves and then died en masse, but the cause was unknown, so she reported it to the authorities and officials of the district's Agricultural Service Center.

"In more than 1 hectare of acacia trees in my family, about 40 trees have wilted leaves, dry trunks, many black stripes and died. After being informed by the officials that the acacia trees died due to fungal infection, the dead trees must be cut down and burned to stop the spread, so for the past few days my family has been mobilizing relatives to cut down the trees, then spray pesticides to prevent it" - Ms. Thuy said.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh, an officer of the Quy Chau Agricultural Service Center, said that wilt disease on acacia trees is caused by the fungus Ceratocystis sp. This is a dangerous disease that causes great damage in the production of raw acacia.

Quy Chau currently has about 22,000 hectares of acacia. At present, acacia wilt disease has arisen, causing damage and increasing rapidly in most acacia growing areas in the district, especially acacia areas planted from year 1 to year 3. Some localized plots have a disease rate of up to 50 - 70% such as acacia gardens in Ke Le village, Chau Hoi commune; Thuan Lap village, Chau Hanh commune...

"The District Agricultural Service Center is actively recommending and instructing people to immediately take preventive measures to stop the spread of fungal diseases," said Mr. Linh.

It is known that in Quy Chau, acacia wilt disease has occurred for several years now. However, many people still do not understand the symptoms of the disease and have no awareness of thorough prevention, causing damage to the development and productivity of acacia.

To limit damage and prevent the spread of acacia wilt disease, Quy Chau is currently actively recommending that people immediately take preventive measures.

Specifically, for trees that are severely infected or dead, they must be cut down, removed from the forest area and destroyed (burned) to eliminate the source of spread. At the same time, local pesticides must be sprayed on the area in the infected area, near the dead trees. For planting areas with a rate of infected trees of over 50%, the forest must be destroyed and liquidated according to the provisions of law.

To prevent wilt disease on acacia trees, it is necessary to use antagonistic fungi in the form of fertilizers or fungicides containing Trichoderma and Chaetomium fungi applied to the soil to treat fungi in planted forests and nurseries. Dosage according to the manufacturer's recommendations. In addition, actively use lime powder to treat nurseries, forest planting holes and treat holes dug up with diseased tree roots to limit fungal growth.

When the disease first appears, you can use drugs with the following active ingredients for spraying to prevent and control it: Metalaxyl (Metaxyl 500WP,...) Mancoxeb (Manozeb 80WP,...), Metalaxyl + Mancozeb (Lanomyl 680WP, Ridomid gold 68WG,...), Difenoconazole + propiconazol (Tilt super 300EC,...) for spraying.
