(Baonghean.vn) - From the end of February to mid-April every year is the best time to harvest meters. Therefore, currently, ethnic minorities in Con Cuong and Tuong Duong districts go into the forest to harvest meters, earning millions of dong every day.

These days, going up to the remote districts of Nghe An, along National Highway 7A and National Highway 48, it is common to see people harvesting cassava, and many trucks are loaded with cassava to transport downstream.

Mr. Kha Van Bon in Na Tong village, Tam Thai commune (Tuong Duong) is currently focusing on harvesting cassia in the forest. He said: His family has 100 cassia clumps planted 7 years ago.

Because customers have pre-ordered, Mr. Bon's family harvests and sells all the plants as soon as they arrive. Last year, his family harvested 1,000 plants, and this year they expect to harvest more than 1,000 plants. The shortest plant, 4 meters, sells for 12,000 VND/plant, the longest plant, over 10 meters, costs 25,000 VND/plant. One day, 100 plants can be harvested, sold to traders, and earn millions.

Mr. Lo Kham Kha - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuong Duong district said: The whole district currently has 1,100 hectares of meters, concentrated in the communes: Tam Dinh, Tam Quang, Tam Thai, Thach Giam, Yen Thang and Mai Son. Every year, people harvest meters and sell them to traders with an estimated quantity of hundreds of thousands of trees.

Con Cuong district is considered to have the largest area of ​​​​meters among the highland districts. At this time, farmers are also urgently harvesting meters in time for the season.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Con Cuong district, there are currently more than 2,000 hectares of bamboo in the area, and each year ethnic people harvest about 1 million bamboo trees, earning tens of billions of dong.

According to local people, planting meters can yield harvests from the 5th year; each year, meters can generate an income of around 20 million VND/ha./.
