(Baonghean.vn) - Farmers in many areas of Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) grow dozens of hectares of green mustard for export.

The entire Quynh Van commune has about 25 hectares of specialized fields for growing mustard greens, concentrated in hamlets 7, 8, 9, 10, 18, 19, 20. This is considered a key vegetable variety suitable for local soil conditions.

Mustard greens are a sun-loving variety, so people plant them in the summer. The growing period of the vegetable, from sowing to harvesting, is nearly 2 months; on average, people grow 4-5 batches of vegetables a year, from February to the end of October of the lunar calendar.

This is a drought-resistant vegetable variety with high yield, sold in domestic markets and exported to China and Laos. Every year, Quynh Van commune earns about 10 billion VND from this vegetable.

However, these days the heat is so bad that vegetables cannot stand the high temperature and their leaves burn and die from the sun.Now people are rushing to the fields to harvest to minimize damage.

Mr. Cao Trong Hoa - a household specializing in growing green mustard greens in hamlet 10, Quynh Van commune said: "In sunny weather, we have to water 2-3 times a day. On foggy mornings, we have to water to wash away the dew, otherwise the leaves will burn when the sun comes up. The growth period of mustard greens is very fast, from sowing to harvesting is 45 days; we have to harvest early to avoid crop loss.
