Lam River water level rises, risk of flooding if heavy rain continues

On the morning of September 17, the water level in Lam River through Con Cuong and Anh Son districts was quite high. Along with that, the influence of storm No. 4 was forming, Nghe An had heavy rain in some localities.

Lam River flows from Laos through many districts of Nghe An province such as Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Anh Son, Do Luong, Nam Dan... At this time, the river water level is more than 1m high.compared to normal, murky water color.

According to weather forecasts, storm No. 4 is forming in the East Sea, moving westward, likely affecting the Central provinces. Previously, due to the impact of storm No. 3, hydroelectric plants released flood water to regulate, especially Ban Ve Hydroelectricity released 6 gates, so the water flowing downstream was quite large. If the weather continues to rain heavily, there is a possibility of flooding in some areas of the delta and along the Ca River and Hieu River.

According to the reporter's observation on the morning of September 17, the rain in Vinh city was quite heavy, causing local flooding on some streets, but it did not affect traffic.

Mr. Ta Huu Hung - Director of Ban Ve Hydropower Plant said that in previous days, the hydropower plant released water from 6 gates, however on September 17, the plant released water from 3 gates to proactively respond to storm No. 4.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that the tropical depression will strengthen into a storm. At 1:00 a.m. on September 17, the tropical depression is expected to move straight into the Central region. On September 18, the wind speed will be level 8, gusting to level 10. Due to the influence of the depression, many localities in Nghe An will have heavy rain, in mountainous areas 100-200mm, in some places over 250mm such as Con Cuong, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong districts...
