Arthroscopic surgery to reconstruct the cruciate ligament is routinely and effectively performed at Hoan My Vinh.
(Baonghean.vn) - Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is one of the most common injuries in knee injuries. In recent years, with the development of modern technical equipment and a team of experienced specialists, arthroscopic ACL reconstruction has become an effective and popular surgery at Hoan My Vinh.
Knee ligament rupture often occurs after injury due to sports, work or accidents, leading to swelling and pain in the knee joint; movement becomes difficult. In particular, after a period of ligament injury, due to loose knee joints, it leads to limited movement of the injured leg, causing the thigh muscles to atrophy. If this condition is not detected and treated promptly, it will lead to knee osteoarthritis, affecting the patient's daily life and work.
Not all cases of knee ligament injury require surgical intervention. Depending on the knee injury, the type of ligament injured, the patient’s age, and mobility needs, the doctor will prescribe appropriate surgical or conservative treatment.
Mr. ND N, 27 years old, in Trung Son commune, Do Luong district (Nghe An), is a professional athlete who often gets injured while playing football. Recently, Mr. N often feels pain in his right knee, muscle tension, a feeling of weakness in his leg when walking, and has difficulty standing on the painful leg; especially when going up and down stairs, his knee rotates or his leg slips and twists. After visiting many reputable medical facilities and being introduced by relatives, Mr. N decided to go to Vinh International Hospital for examination and treatment. The doctor diagnosed Mr. N with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and prescribed arthroscopic surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.

The goal of surgery is to: Reconstruct the cruciate ligament due to right knee injury, ensuring that the replacement ligament has full function of the damaged ligament. Restore maximum knee function, while helping the patient move and live normally.
Dr. Tran Van Thuyen - Head of the Department of Musculoskeletal Surgery performed the arthroscopic surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament for the patient. The surgery took about 45 minutes. Accordingly, the surgeon made a 2 cm skin incision at the attachment of the pes angus tendon, opened the tendon sheath to take the gracilis tendon and semitendinosus tendon, created an 8 mm diameter graft, and inserted it into the knee joint through 2 troca holes in the anterior - medial and anterior - lateral positions of the knee joint. From there, the doctor assessed the injury according to 7 steps of arthroscopic examination of the knee joint, revealing the attachment of the tendon at the femoral bridge and tibial plateau. After successful ligament reconstruction, the patient was given a knee brace.
During surgery, the patient is completely awake and can be informed by Dr. Thuyen about the patient's medical condition and the cruciate ligament reconstruction process through real images on the endoscopic screen, so that the patient can understand the condition and feel secure in practicing after the reconstruction.

DThis is a modern surgical method with many outstanding advantages: Can perform surgery in the same day, fast surgery time of only 30 - 45 minutes; Minimal intervention, less soft tissue damage, less complications, limited post-operative pain, early recovery exercise immediately after surgery; Use of prophylactic antibiotics before surgery, no need to use long-term antibiotics after surgery; Help patients return to normal activities soon; Reasonable cost, health insurance applied and direct hospital fee guarantee with more than 30 domestic and foreign insurance companies.
In addition, the close coordination between the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Department of Rehabilitation creates an effective treatment regimen, helping to restore maximum knee function after surgery.
For all cases of ligament reconstruction surgery, after surgery, patients are instructed to wear a knee brace and practice early rehabilitation exercises to increase muscle strength. On the 3rd day, with a stable condition, the patient can be discharged or stay for further rehabilitation exercises. After 9 months, when the knee joint has fully recovered, they can play sports and return to normal life conveniently.
