Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee offered incense at the Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs' Cemetery

(Baonghean.vn) - On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, on the morning of July 13, comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee came to offer flowers and incense at the Vietnam-Laos International Martyrs Cemetery; Visited and presented gifts to policy families in Anh Son district.

Also attending were representatives of the Provincial Party Committee Office, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Border Guard Command; the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, and leaders of the District Party Committee and People's Committee of Anh Son district.

During the two resistance wars against France and the US, with pure international sentiment for our brotherly neighbor, thousands of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers bravely left their homeland to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Lao people. Vietnamese volunteer soldiers fought against enemy sweeps and encroachments, while building and consolidating resistance organizations and governments, building and protecting liberated areas, strengthening armed forces, and developing guerrilla warfare throughout the regions of Upper, Central and Lower Laos.

Among those volunteers and military experts, there were tens of thousands of heroic Vietnamese sons who fell in the Land of a Million Elephants.

To remember and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs of the Vietnamese volunteer army who fought to protect the two countries, our Party and State built a special cemetery named after both countries. That is the Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs Cemetery.

Built in 1976, the Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs' Cemetery is located in the center of Anh Son town, close to National Highway 7 leading to Nam Can border gate. With an area of ​​nearly 7 hectares, the Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs' Cemetery is the largest cemetery gathering the graves of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who fought and died in Laos.

The Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs Cemetery has two areas: Area A and Area B. Area A has a total of 5,381 graves. Area B has a total of 5,219 graves and a martyrs' cemetery with 11 graves. Since its construction, the cemetery has received and cared for nearly 11,000 remains of martyrs who died on the battlefield in Laos and brought here to rest. Of these, there are about 6,900 graves with unknown names and hometowns and 570 graves with names but unknown hometowns.

Offering incense to the heroic martyrs at the Vietnam-Laos International Martyrs' Cemetery, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu and the delegation respectfully offered incense at the temple of President Ho Chi Minh; laid wreaths and offered incense at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs - the resting place of nearly 11,000 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who fought and died in Laos.

With sincere respect, the delegation expressed deep gratitude and infinite sorrow for the heroic and noble sacrifice of the heroes and martyrs who fell for the independence and freedom of the nation.

The delegation pledged before the souls of the martyrs that the Party Committee and people of Nghe An province are determined to make every effort to promote the emulation movement, labor and production to build the homeland of beloved Uncle Ho to become increasingly rich and civilized; the people's lives to become increasingly prosperous and happy, worthy of the heroic sacrifices of the martyrs.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu presented gifts to the Management Board of the Vietnam - Laos International Martyrs' Cemetery for its contributions in protecting, repairing and caring for martyrs' graves.

On the same day, Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu and the Provincial Party Committee delegation visited policy families in Vinh Son commune, Anh Son district. The Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee visited the family of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Quynh (born in 1921), mother of martyr Nguyen Huu Quynh, who is currently living with her severely disabled daughter; and visited the family of war invalid Nguyen Thuong Chinh (born in 1956) in Vinh Lac village, Vinh Son commune, who participated in the resistance war against the US and fought in the northern battlefield. Returning to his locality, he actively participated in activities and movements in the village and commune.
